The Kelpies - Falkirk Scotland - Monochrome Monday
“What is a kelpie?” you ask. “And why are these beautiful sculptures in Falkirk, Scotland named The Kelpies?
By answering the first question, I will have given you the answer to the second!
In Scottish mythology, a kelpie is a water spirit which lives in the Scottish lochs, and is often seen in the form of a horse. The kelpie, according to legend, has the power to take on human form, but seaweed in the hair, or feet that are more like hooves often give it away. There are many legends surrounding the kelpie, which most often appears as a man who falls in love with a beautiful young maiden.
The Kelpies sculptures, each 30 metres (98.43 feet) high and the tallest equine sculptures in the world, are located next to the Forth and Clyde Canal in The Helix, a park area in Falkirk, Scotland with miles of cycling and walking trails. Scottish Clydesdale horses were the inspiration for Scottish sculptor Andy Scott for the creation of this beautiful work of art which celebrates the horse's role as a canal tow horse as well as its role in Scotland's agriculture and industry.

Gosh, these are beautiful... Almost 100 ft high, that's massive - I would love to view them face to face (face to hooves! lol...) Great B&Ws!! :)
Thanks! They are a must visit if you are ever in the area. You can go inside them too, but time was limited for me the day I visited, and my friend had her dog with us, so I did not want to leave them outside. Instead, we enjoyed the walks!
These are great! I really like the last one the best!
Thanks! They are awesome up close!
