Why Winning The Lottery Can Be Hazardous To Your Health!

in #money6 years ago (edited)

Recently a New Hampshire woman won 1/2 billion dollars in the Powerball Lottery , and she refuses to collect unless she can keep her anonymity. A court battle looms. And you may be thinking, "This woman is crazy, she should take her winnings and run...or Party!" Well, maybe she is smarter than the average Joe or... Jane.

Winners of the lottery may not be as lucky as you think. Consider some of these people who won the lottery and died, or were murdered shortly aftwards.

Lottery Winner Dies After Gold Plating His Testicles

Justin Green 38 years old from Atlanta Georgia, died trying to "gold plate" his testicles.

Andrew “Jack” Whittaker was murdered by sister-in-law and her boy friend

Billie Bob Harrell, Jr. Suicide

William Post III Died of respiratory failure.

Keith Gough Died from drinking and stress.

Michael Carroll has attempted suicide at least two times. He is now broke.

Janite Lee is now broke, and owes over $2 million dollars.

Callie Rogers spent all her money on others trying to make them happy. She is now broke, and said “It’s brought me nothing but unhappiness. It’s ruined my life.”

Jeffrey Dampier died from a bullet to the back of his head.

Evelyn Basehore won the lottery twice! She now lives in a trailer park and is broke.

Of course this is not a complete list. I'm sure there are many many more horror stories of people winning the lottery and ending up dead broke...Pun intended!

It's absolutely absurd that someone cannot claim it without divulging who they are. Once you do the onslaught of nonstop begging and asking for charity is for sure overwhelming. Most people end up broke or dead it seems. You suddenly are thrust into the publics eye with all this cash that people are looking to scam off you 24/7. Good for her, I hope she takes it to the state and wins the precedent
.

Absolutely! She is smart to try and keep it private.

The lottery could care less if she claims the money or not.
Since not all unclaimed prizes find their rightful owners, the question is: Where does that money go? Some states put the money into future lottery games, while others give the cash back to the community. In New York, for example, unclaimed prize money is returned to the prize pool. In Wisconsin, unclaimed prizes are used to help offset property taxes. Unclaimed prizes in Ohio are turned over to an education fund that supports K-12 students.

she shouldnt have played if she didnt want to be known. I understand her thinking, but why not just form a trust and have the trust claim it. many people do this

Good Idea. Where that money goes...I don't know. But it should go back to the tax payer...or owners of the State - thats us!
