3 of my favorite investment movies which are fun to watch even for those not too keen on investing

1. The Wolf of Wall Street

This movie is one of my favorite movies for its entertainment value. The movie is starred by Leonardo DiCaprio and he does an exceptionally good job at portraying "the wolf of wall street".
As described by IMDB:

"Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stock-broker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government." -IMDB

The movie is a fun, yet majority dramatized take on how Jordan Belfort figured out how he could gain large amounts of money by using ethically and legally questionable methods. Despite the highly unacceptable way he gained his money, the movie offers some easy fun for most audiences. Just don't get too sensitive about it, the real wolf of wall street probably caused a lot of financial harm to a lot of people. But for the not too sensitive this movie offers a fun time and I would suggest it to anyone interested in indulging in some quality comedy with a splash of get rich quick theme overlaid.

2. The Big Short

This movie isn't as known by most, at least when compared to wolf of wall street. However, it is a really interesting and fascinating take on how a group of people figure they should short the American housing market, before the big crash of 2008.

As described by IMDB:

"In 2006-7 a group of investors bet against the US mortgage market. In their research they discover how flawed and corrupt the market is." -IMDB

This movie isn't hilarious, but it has a sense of humor added in, which might need some deeper understanding and might not be the "lets watch an easy comedy" type of movie you might want to watch when you feel exhausted and just want to laugh. However, it doubles as a good description of the situation that was building around the housing market prior to the crash. It shows how seemingly clear it was that the situation was way out of hand, even before anything even happened. Hindsight is always easier. This movie is great for anyone interested in investing, but also has enough of an interesting story to enjoy, even for those who might not be that into investing.

3. Billions

The series is an entertaining story about maintaining power and wealth in a system that has made it easy to make money by stepping to the side of the legal path and is now about to bite back.

As described by IMDB:

"U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades goes after hedge fund king Bobby "Axe" Axelrod in a battle between two powerful New York figures." -IMDB

Like most investment movies and series this also revolves around a "hedge fund king" who has done some illegal moves in the past and made millions, because of that. It isn't a story of getting rich, rather how to maintain the richness and keep power. It is an entertaining story with a rather black and white way of looking at investment and therefore is far from an actual portrayal of how investing is. However, it is still a really fun series to watch and you don't have to understand anything about investing to enjoy it (as in the two movies above).

Do you have any other suggestions? Any great investment movies (non-documentaries)?
