Sadly those stats do not surprise. The living paycheck to paycheck in dual income households is most troubling. I have many friends I grew up with in NY that fit that profile and they make pretty decent money, it's wild.
Those couples making decent money are probably spending it all keeping up appearances.
I think of households making $200,000 a year and think if I was bringing in that amount of dough I would be retired in about 5 years max. But they are spending pretty much all of it on things that hardly matter.
