Side Hustling Ep. 10: Today's e-Book Side Hustle is Something ANYONE Can Do | No Skills Required

I think you guys are going to like today's story. Today's story is about Amanda, a womanwho enjoyed cooking, and was on a Ketogenic diet. Ketogenic is similar to Paleo but is even stricter as there is no carbs, no starches, and no sugar.

Amanda started posting her recipes to a personal blog. She had no intention of turning it into a commercial project or trying to make money from it. She simply did it to organize and keep track of her recipes she would cook for her family. Being that her day job was in content marketing she couldn't help but to snazz the site up a bit and and add an e-mail optin/signup.

A few months past and one day out of the blue she realized she had over 3,000 e-mail subscribers. Still she didn't think much of it and went on with her life. After a few more months she noticed the e-mail list had grown to 6,000 and at this point she could ignore it no longer.

On a whim she sent out an e-mail saying she was thinking about rolling out a Ketogenic Cookbook and asked her e-mail subscribers if any of them would be interested in pre-ordering the book. To her surprise she had over $1,000 in pre-orders that first day.

Amanda worried customers would be asking for refunds, or that she would be called out as a fraud, but to her surprise the cookbook was a hit and she got all kinds of positive messages from her blog readers and those who bought the book. A few months later a publisher contacted her and turned it into a printed paper book as opposed to just an e-Book.

Now Amanda could probably grow this business larger, but she's happy with her day job and the side hustle and wants to keep them both.

So let's break down this side hustle. Amanda basically created an eBook, this can be done as simply as creating a list of recipes in Microsoft Word, adding a few photos and a description of each recipe and the ingredients, and then turning it into a PDF file and uploading it to either the Amazon KDP marketplace or in the case of Amanda, Gumroad where she sold and delivered the product herself.

One interesting thing about recipes, a list of ingredients ie a recipe, cannot be copyrighted. A photo of a recipe can, a description of a recipe can, but the actual recipe cannot. This means you can literally go around and cherry pick recipes from existing cookbooks, recreate the recipe, do a small writeup describing the recipe, and get your own photos to accompany each recipe and you can package that into a book and re-sell it.

I can't make this any more clear to you guys. Anyone wanting to start a side hustle like this, if you know how to search the internet, type, and create a PDF file you can literally do this exact side hustle. I would suggest settlin

Good video. Kindle is one of my side hustles. I haven't done anything with it for over a year and it still brings in $200-$300 a month. I definitely recommend it.

That's pretty good, I had some books doing over $300 but were very niche and that niche died. I havn't done anything in a while, coudln't even tell you the numbers they are doing now maybe $50 with an occasional spike. Was thinking about getting back into it or at least hiring some writers to do it for me.

Thank you very inspiring article. Great example that specific niches are important.
