Now that you own Steem and SBD
With this platform you have taken the first step to owning crypto. Just by signing up you are given crypto, but what should you do with it? And what is it really worth.
It pays to see Steemit as a game, where you want to maximise your tokens. I am by no means an expert, but I thought I would write this to give structure to my thoughts and to help the mass base to get a better grip on what to do once you have signed up.
How to increase your tokens
When you open your account you get your wallet as well. If you are new to crypto, this is your first crypto wallet, so well done and protect it like real money, as that is what it is. For now do not worry about the price of a token. Just get more tokens. You will see the $ amount changes, as Steem shows your token value in relation to the US $, and as it's price increase or decrease so does the relative value of your wallet.
The key to Steem is your reputation. You need to work on getting it higher, and the higher it is the more your relative influence. The second key item is Steam Power. The higher that is the more your vote is worth.
To earn tokens there are three things you should do:
- Write blogs. Write regularly. At least once a day, and if you have time you can write twice or three times a day.
- Comment on other blogs. Keep it positive and engaging. Do not troll or harass, just chat to those that made the effort to write, I am sure they will enjoy hearing from you
- Vote for others. This does not earn you direct coins, but you share the daily pool that way and people will appreciate this and follow you.
By being active daily, you will slowly start building followers, and they will start watching for your articles. You do not have to be a star writer, but try and keep it interesting and of value to others. I write because I enjoy it. If I get money for it bonus. Use pictures and make sure you ALWAYS give credit when using others pictures or comments. Your own work is what people want to see. Use tags cleverly to make sure that your content is in the correct group. This way you are more likely to get people to share your interest and comment, vote and follow.
Comment on other articles. DO NOT troll. That means try to ask for votes or follows in another post. You will find people ignore you or worse flag you. Rather just add value by engaging with the content and let them decide if they like to engage with you more and thus follow you. A great comment can also be voted for, so another easy way to get tokens, but you have to add VALUE.
Do not just vote for everyone, but do not be scared to vote. When you vote you do not give your money away, you help allocate the daily pool. If you do not vote then someone else will and they will decide who gets the share. I know people vote for friends and family, but try and find the good content. If you do in the first few minutes after a post gets posted, and it starts trending, your reputation will increase and that will give you curation rewards and more power! So do not be scared to vote. It benefits you and the person that you voted for.
How to grow
When you start out your reputation will be low, in the 20's. You want to get this up to at least 50. You do that by voting for good articles, ones that may trend. The more you vote the better, but remember you can only vote so many times a day. As your reputation grow you will be noticed and followed by more people.
PowerUP. Do not power down. The higher your steem power the more your vote counts. Once you get to the 2000 level, you will notice that not only will you vote be more valuable than a few cents for you (when you self vote) but more people would want you to notice them and thus they will vote for you and follow you. The higher your steem power the more powerful you are. I suggest if you do not trade or need the money, powerup. 20 000 should be a good target!
Write, comment and write more. Your effort and consistency is what counts. I have been here long but am tardy in writing . Do not make that mistake. At the start your articles will not really make much. 50c or so. But if you stick with it, remain engaged and talk to the community, you will start getting to $5 per post and soon you could be at the 50$ mark .... but you have to stick at it.
Happy blogging! my next article will be on managing and moving your money. How to, do's, dont's. And the different coins and exchanges out there.
Good post @robertm. My name is Jess. I write primarily about money and investing. You're not alone regarding writing tardiness. With a newborn and a two year old , writing consistently is quite the challenge!
Thanks for your comment. Yes, one needs to create a slot in the day. Good luck with that. My kids are 15 and 12, but I well remember the demands of young kids.
Thanks for the push to keep working at this.
