We See Money with Our Minds and Not Our Eyes

in #money7 years ago

"Who is wise? One who can tell what will be hatched from the egg that has been laid. Not he who can see the future - that is a prophet. Wisdom is seeing tomorrow's consequences of today's events." - Babylonian Talmud

Some people are able to tell the future with incredible accuracy. This gift is born from an immense amount of time and energy spent in studying and watching the logical results of certain decisions. There is a reason some folks knew the housing crisis of 2008 was coming - they foresaw the natural outcomes of borrowing money that could not be repaid. They were able to profit magnanimously because of their wisdom.

Such is the nature of making money - we see it with our imagination. We hear of an opportunity and we immediately begin thinking about ways to create value from it. This is not done with our eyes. We see it in our minds, and create the mental images of what result we wish to see. The money we are able to earn is a correlation with how well we are able to see the events that are to come.

The individual who is continually asking, "What caused this event to happen?" and then moves to, "What in turn will happen because of this event?" is well on their way to making a good living.

Creating Free Time to See the Future

One of my favorite people to learn from is Tim Ferris. In his new book Tools of Titans, Tim interviews the prolific creators and thinkers of our day. One habit that he kept finding is that of creating free time and space to think. Each of these producers put aside all other distractions, and set their mind to the task of solving difficult problems.

The reason this is a successful habit, is because the mind is able to focus on how to create solutions, instead of being amused by the overabundance of stimuli around us.

The word amuse is a helpful case study here. The word muse means, "to think or ponder." The "a" in front of muse means that it is the opposite of musing. Amusement is taking our minds off the task at hand, and vegging out. When we are allowing our time and mindful energy to be soaked up by excessive television or social media, we are killing the very energy that could be helping us to solve our situation.

We have all heard the words, "Each of us has 24 hours in a day." Well, it is true, and what we allow our minds to focus on determines the quality of our lives. When we create the free thinking space we need, we are able to see more clearly what is possible.

The Great One

Some of my Canadians friends will enjoy this closing section. "The Great One," also known as Wayne Gretzky, is considered the greatest hockey player to ever play. Wayne was once asked in an interview why he was so successful - Gretzky responded, "I skate to where the puck is going to be, not to where it has been."

Wayne Gretzky earned over 40 million dollars in his career. He has since amassed a net worth of 200 million dollars. It is easy to say that the principles he applied while on the ice, he has put to use elsewhere.

Our ability to make money is not limited to the hours we have in a day, or the money we currently have - time is not money, and it does not take money to earn money. Our potential is only limited by our thinking. It is with our minds that we see what can be done. The money we create, is what we see in our minds, and then work to make it a reality.

I liked your article, with one caveat - Gretsky wasn't the greatest - Bobby Orr was - he not only scored goals and amassed points, but he changed the game. I like game-changers, and I think you do too :)

Haha. You have me there - I respect and admire the game-changers. :)
