Marketing Blunder or Brilliance : Telling Children To Draw on Your Product Packaging

As a serial entrepreneur, I have my fair share of marketing stunts. I've seen people shouting their product name while hijacking a horse cart, I've seen folks changing their child's name for advertising, and other batshit crazy stuff.

Yet from marketing technique that I saw from time to time, I love the ones whom tryna to look social(regardless of their intention). Here's one example of it :

I found this pack of sugar from an indie store in Jogja. Its just an ordinary run of the mill brown sugar. But what makes it unique is that each of the package has drawing made by what it seems to be 5 years old's.
Its not mass produced either, another package bears yet another drawings :

Crude perhaps, but unique nevertheless. Each has names from the kids who draws it.

I'm feeling kinda mix up for this marketing stunt. On one side, perhaps the seller wants to target the kids mother by making some kind of competition in kindergardens. But on the other hand, the packaging looks quite crude, and people won't associate these drawings for brown sugar products.

So in a sense, I think if they put their product on ninche market solely on stores where a lot of soccer mom around then its a good strategy. But if selling it on general stores like the one where I found it, I don't think it will fly.
