Today most Americans simply accept that the federal government takes (steals) a cut of your hard-earned income from your paycheck.
The Revenue Act of 1913 created the income tax. This means that we have only had an income tax for 105 years. Prior to then the government earned its revenue through primarily tariffs.
This fact I hope leads people down a certain rabbit hole, where you will find another insidious piece of legislation passed the same year:
The Federal Reserve Act of 1913.
