Early silver kookaburras

Below are the first 3 years of Australian silver kookaburra 1 oz /2oz coins ('90-'92). One thing you should notice immediately is the square capsule as opposed to all other major bullion series. This type of capsule was used for 1 and 2 oz kooks till late 90s. Since then Perth mint changed their capsule to a round one as well.

In one of my previous posts i discussed kooks in detail and one characteristic i mentioned is every year a different design is on the kook. Knowing this, second thing you should notice if you looked at the picture carefully is that the 1990 1 oz kook as well as the 1992 2 oz kook have the same image just different date. This is due to the fact that 2 oz kooks didnt get a matching new image every year till 1994. So 2oz kooks from 1990-1993 have all the same image except different year stamped.

For some of these early years kooks (90s) the mint didnt fully sell out its max mintage number allowed coins. So a few years ago min started to mint some more of these early kooks that didnt have their mintages maxed. These newly minted coins look exactly the same as the ones minted in those specific years except for one bit, its capsule is now a round one.

To me these older ones (square cap)seem more original and add an additional layer of security as you cant buy square capsules not even from Perth Mint anymore. And from experience when selling on a forum such as Silverstackers (silverstackers.com) the squared versions get a higher premium.

To get an approximate price of coins above; the price ranges from ~USD$30 to ~USD $50 depending on the coin
