People are interested in Steemit, now what?
Steemit has been hugely successful since it's launch in July 2016. We recently passed 600,000 user accounts and the buzz surrounding Steemit has never been higher.
For Steemit users this isn't a surprise because Steemit can provide another source of income for doing what they would anyways, social networking and there's no other website executing this business model better right now. But is the average user enjoying Steemit?
Compared to Reddit:
Looking at these stats, there's definately some usability issues and room for improvement. Steemit is getting more first time visitors than ever but the site needs to grab people's attention and give them more reasons to come back other than the prospects of making a quick buck, which isn't as easy as it sounds anyways.
I'm very optimistic about the platform.
We are starting to see some big name content creators migrate to Steemit and bring their massive following with them. Comparing to Reddit isn't really fair at this point when you consider Reddit has been building it's business for almost 13 years and 2018 is looking like it's going to be Steemit's chance to break into the social media space in a big way as long as the team can execute. And that's the big "IF". We need hardfork 20, which has been in the works for 6 months plus continuing evolution of the platform usability to retain users. We all want to see this platform succeed and it's in a good position to do so but I'd hate to see Steemit squander it's first mover advantage.

Yes I totally agree, Steemit.inc is very slow with developments that are really needed and could boost the User experience so much. Even small filter options in all posts, follwoers, following etc... are missing. I'm using steemplus to filter the feed but come on thats couldn't be so hard to implement. Thanks @honeydew2002 for your post we all should keep building up pressure to the Steemit Developers!
Excited to be part of the new crowd here. The community aspect of Steemit, and the simple ability to see content be rewarded here, is remarkable.
Just joined here while ago. I think it definitely has insane potential, BUT there's a lot to be improved as well, at least from what I've experienced so far.

Gday! Yes the rise of crypto makes steemit even more tempting, however for the lamen it takes considerable amount of research and learning how to make steem into actual usable currency.
Solid analysis on the state of steemit. I also enjoyed reading your analysis of bitcoin as the standard for crypto. I agree that the evolution beyond bitcoin will demonstrate the maturation of crypto. To paraphrase Bill Clinton, it's the technology, stupid. Bitcoin changed the game. But it's too clunky and clings to hard to its origins.
The maturation of the technology is in the development of the technology to address the rest of our interactions. From voting to contracts, this technology will soon move way beyond finance. The possibilities are endless.

Engagement is an issue for Steemit. If you look at the bounce rate between Steemit and Reddit, Huge difference. It is just a one-year-old platform. There is a lot of space to improve.
