I suffer from S.O.S.
In my quest for financial freedom, I now find myself overwhelmed with the massive information out there. At first it was just about signing up and following certain "gurus" out there who promise to teach you how to make $100 a day, then it was signing up for opt in forms giving away "Free PDF that contains secrets to make your blog or business go viral". And next thing I know, I get like 40 emails everyday from lots of internet marketers trying sell me this new breakthrough product or this 100% proven course that will help me achieve my dreams. I've wasted hours and hours worth watching all the training videos, reading through all the books and trying to make their methods work. I am guilty of buying product after product and course after course but not getting the results that I want. Yes, I am guilty of the S.O.S. or more commonly known as the "Shiny Object Syndrome".
Shiny object syndrome is described as a disease of distraction. Most commonly experienced by budding entrepreneurs. Why budding entrepreneurs? Because at this stage in our career, we tend to be highly motivated and new technologies tend to excite us. We are like children running after shiny things. This syndrome can have the following effects:
Inability to finish. You never take action on any product, method or course you buy simply because you have a lot on your list and you simply don't know where and which to start with.
Always getting sidetracked. Starting project after project without ever completing a thing. I know this for sure because I have a notebook were I write my ideas, and I am always flipping to a new page to start a new wall for a new idea. haha
Burning through our cash. This makes me thankful for refunds! But be reminded that not all products have a full refund policy. Its just lately that I have been taking advantage of refund policies but now, instead of buying the product first and then discovering that it is not working for me, I will look for reputable reviews first so I can get a feel of the program.
I know I'm not the only one suffering from this. How bout you? What is your experience on this?
Next post, I will write about ways on how to beat S.O.S.
I like that acronym, S-O-S. Also known as the Save Our Souls symbol.
I would argue to consider your trial and errors you call failures to be progress. You are learning what works and what doesn't, and as you can tell, there's people out there that will sell you that shiny object and promise you this and that, only to find out that none of it will come easy, it all takes work. We've all been there, the thing that seperates you from another person though is you are willing to try. Most people won't ever try, it's too scary. Keep the vision in mind, and you will find a way.
Thanks for the words of encouragement. Yes, I'm not stopping my journey. I may be a bit disheartened now but I will pull myself together and get back on that horse. :)
