win prestige and huge amounts of money.
While there are no puplic records for cash games, every tournament win can be tracked.
So lets take a look today of Poker's biggest tournament winners of all time!

These numbers are somewhat misleading, even beyond only taking into consideration tournament winnings
The problem is that they don't take losses into account. A player like Sidel or DN could have half a million in tournament winnings in a given year, and still finish the year down, because they play so many high stakes tournaments.
There's not any in the top 5, but id be willing to bet that there are quite a few losing, BE, or near BE players in the top 100 or so all time winners calculated this way
you do have a point. however thats the most accurate and only trackable information on the net you can find. it doesnt even include cash games... so while e.g. Phil Ivey could be winning 1 mio in tournament winnings in 2016, he may have lost e.g. 0.5 mio in cash games. BTW the buy ins (especially for WSOP events) are mostly given to the pros by their sponsor (FullTiltPoker, 888 Poker etc.)
