Have you ever wondered how much money there is in the world? See this post and find out. ( See the graphic).
As you can imagine, the answer to this question is complicated, not because it is difficult to add up all the huge amounts, but because this amount depends on the parameters used to define what money is.
The amount of existing money varies depending on how we define it. The more abstract is the definition of money that we use, the greater the sum total.
For purists, who believe that money refers only to banknotes and coins issued by the banks and the sums deposited in current accounts, savings and traditional investments, the total money in the world reached US $ 80.9 trillion.
But those who prefer a broader interpretation, including complex financial products (known as derivatives), gold and bitcoin ,, the total amount outstanding is in the house of the fourdrillions.
It is hard to imagine how much is a fourdrillion. In words, it looks like this: 1,000,000,000,000,000.
Only derivatives correspond for about $ 1.2 quadrillion. In fact, there is more money in the form of derivatives that the entire global stock market added, which is about $ 70 trillion, with about half of that is concentrated in the United States, especially due to the giants of American technology, as Apple, Google, Amazon and Microsoft.
Compared to the stock market and derivatives, the overall value of the real estate market is only a fraction of the total, accounting for $ 7.6 trillion.
With regard to the money of every individual of every country in the world, the total cake corresponds to $ 199 trillion, of which 29% were borrowed from the international financial crisis that erupted in late 2008.
To get an idea, the balance sheet of the US central bank, the Fed, jumped from $ 1 trillion to $ 4.5 trillion since the 2008 crisis, thanks to the economic stimulus packages that injected amounts of illiquid previous market.
The United States is responsible for nearly a third of the total debt, while Europe follows in second place with 26% and Japan with 20%. China, despite recent fears about the growth of debt accounts for only 6% of the stock of global debt.
Despite the great attention that the bitcoin has recently received in the media, the total value of bitcoins in circulation at the end of July 2016, is only $ 10 billion, or if you prefer, about 8% of the total wealth of Bill Gates the richest man in the world.
The peak of the market value of digital currency, reached in 2013 was $ 14 billion, which represents a very small portion of the total amount of outstanding resources in the world. However, although small compared to the other example, the market value recorded three years ago is comparable to the market value of silver, a leading precious metals in the world.
Last two (Global Debt and Derivatives) are terrifying.
