Do not Chase Titles, Chase Dreams

There is currently too much emphasis on titles and one’s achievements, we live in a world filled with more pride and envy than ever before. The consequence this has on people’s minds that may be overlooked, especially on young adults, is that it unconsciously makes us feel like some titles are harder to achieve than they actually are. It also strays our focus away from the real purpose toward achieving titles aside from an impressive display. I was discussing to this girl about some guy she knew that I also knew a little about, I asked what type of job he had (he was known for driving a Lambo at a young age) and she replied with an admiring smile that he was an entrepreneur and so then I asked what type and elaborated simply that an entrepreneur just means someone who founded a company (more or less), she replied that she was unsure. His status of being an entrepreneur at a young age seems to stick to people’s minds as a reason for his wealth, not fully knowing what exactly he is an entrepreneur of. Just because you are an entrepreneur does not mean you are rich, you often only hear about the ones that do make it big. The world relies on the lavishly titles obtained from their courses throughout life like “CEO”, “founder”, “entrepreneur” and “philanthropist”. These are titles obtained because of someone’s journey, it wasn’t and should not be the goal of your journey. If making money is your only goal, you won’t make money. If you want to be the next big thing like Bill Gates because of his reputation and wealth, I can assure that you will struggle. Having large sums of money and boastful titles are compliments of a successful career, it is easier to become rich by aiming at an ideal career than it is by finding an ideal career that will get you rich, this is because it is not always clear what career makes the most money. Aiming for a career that you will enjoy will give you the desire to succeed. It is also important to understand not everyone can be doctors or engineers, but we can certainly be one of the best at something else. There are plenty of job opportunities that are more available to you than to others, and plenty of ones that will interest you and allow you an opportunity to a successful career.
