Giving Cryptocurrency As A Wedding Gift
An increasing number of Americans are allegedly looking to give cryptocurrency as wedding gifts.
Some of the most prominent registry websites in this space, like Zola and Honeyfund, say that they've started to see couples register for gifts in the way of cryptocurrency.
Cryptocurrency, like Bitcoin, has allegedly become more popular to give than fine china, when it comes to wedding registries these days.
And should it be any surprise? It's likely that the acceptance and prevalence of cryptocurrency on wedding registrations is going to grow well into the future.
At the moment, one of the most popular gifts to give to someone for their wedding is cash.
And the average cash gift is said to be around $160 for weddings in the US.
As more people become familiarized with cryptocurrency and start to use it instead of cash or credit cards etc, then we can expect that this will also be the case with things like gifts for wedding registries.
A Gift For Anyone?
Some suggest that you shouldn't give cryptocurrency to another person unless you are sure that they already use it or are aware of what to do with it.
However, if they don't know what cryptocurrency is yet and they haven't used it before, giving it to them might provide incentive for them to want to get to know what it is.
If they want to access their funds then they would need to try and learn how to use it. After they learn how to access their gift funds, they might continue to use it; seeing as how easy it was for them to begin using it in the first place.

Wow this is awesome! I would definitely consider doing this to provide incentive to any of my friends to start using cryptocurrency, as currently none of them do. I can literally see the blankness and confusion on their faces when I talk about it. Like it's some totally vague, unreal thing to them lol! Very relevant post! :)

@doitvoluntarily - Giving crypto would really make sense if it is the correct coin. It's value would increase with time instead of diminishing like FIAT cash or gifts in kind. Of course, the people receiving the gift of crypto would have to learn how to use them. Perhaps, in future, when Bitcoin credit/debit cards become the norm, this would be a lot easier. I was at wedding a few weeks ago when this thought popped up in my head. Usually in Asian culture, you get gold from your family when you get married. But with the price of BTC surpassing gold, it makes more sense to give them bitcoin, right?
I've never given crypto for a wedding gift but I have given it for a Christening gift a couple of years ago. Everyone thought I was mad but I spoke to the parents recently and as it has increased in value ten fold since I gave it, they are over the moon!!
Its also got them interested in crypto! Not sure they have the stomach for volatility though, so may not stay invested until the childs18th birthday! If they do it may pay for a little more than just a crappy car

I think if the person knows nothing about cryptocurrency you may get a good reaction and stimulate someone to get into crypto or you could get some heads shaking in disapproval as for a wedding gift you gave something menial than something materialistic and physical which we all crave haha
