Personally, I have stopped using UBER here in Singapore - because the passenger/s of Uber is/are not assured and in case of an accident one might find itself in big problem, and all this for wanting to save a sum that is less than 3-4$ for the ride

things may NOT be as you wrote, especially for insurance. I know already they are very professional, and allow to work only cars that have a private hire license FOR people transport and regular insurance. They are not running any illegal activity actually.

to be hone it's pretty honest one, but the problem mainstream doesn't disclose it for us... they just pop up some "news" to make audience... a shame

i guess that you write about the legality replying to @ricko66 post.
Here in Singapore there are NO Illegal things ...the law is very strict and UBER is legal here.
I will double check

here is a question asked on line about if the passenger is assured in case of an accident:
http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/am-i-covered-by-insurance-if-im-a-grab-or-uber-car-passenger
....
It will be difficult, since the drivers are not employees of these apps providers.

Some of them are not even employees of vehicle rental companies that Uber and Grab partner with.

So, until there is clear legislation that says that all private-hire and limousine service providers must purchase insurance that covers passengers, users of these services should buckle up and hope for the best.

I am a transport manager. I don't know the laws in Singapore, but I can tell you how it is in Europe. Any vehicle with a license for people transport, like Private hire... must have by law, paid their insurance that covers the people!! The private hire license is not given or it's suspended if no such insurance is ongoing...

I am Italian but i live here in Singapore as i have fond work here.
Yes I know, Back home in Europe it's like this but unfortunatlly here the passenger is not covered.
also here the taxi take you everywhere for aprox. 10-15 Euro while in Milano it is a nightmare to find the taxi - you need to call a special number 028585 - wait sometimes 30 minutes - and a short ride will cost at least 30 euros
so UBER is a good solution

"piccolo il mondo" ... :-) io sono in UK ma ho tirato su la mia vita in Italia

hahaha ...che coincidenza ..hai visto :)
Io vorrei o meglio avrei voluto ritornare in Italia pero , purtroppo non trovo, in Italia, un lavoro decente che mi paghi, almeno la meta' di quello che guadagno qui
...quindi ..in tanto ..sono qui a Singapore :)

I never use Uber also because they don't have any license for clients transportation as well no real insurance so in case of an accident what will happen. Here in Thailand there is a huge battle from the regulated taxis against the uber company

UBER is now banned in many countries, Italy included for instance.
