In a throw of dice, the gambler bets on which side is expected to face up. For any face that is down there are four faces to the sides and one side facing up. Each time the die is rolled, a bet is placed on what side comes up. Assuming the game master decides he only pays out 4 times the bet placed each time a 6 is thrown, and every other time the person placing the bet loses. That means at every time any of the other five sides show up, the gambler loses the bet.
It then follows that for each cast of the dice, the gambler has five chances of losing but because when he throws a 6, the casino pays four times the bet, then the gambler has four chances to win. It means that, at every play, the casino and the game master can expect to keep one-fifth of all the money on the table at all times even before the die is cast. A clever system you'd say, but most people don't even bother themselves about the science of the game, so the game master gets away with quite a lot .
The best remedy is Don't Gamble! Gambling is very addictive and the easiest way to flush money down the drain. Every win draws you in, so more can be sucked out of you. A times therapy might be needed to completely wean an addict off the tables.

Title is a bit misleading... of course the odds are stacked against you at the casino because you are paying for the ambience, the staff, free food/drinks, and other things offered at a casino.
If you play poker with friends, or even a small organized game the odds may not be totally fair but you are doing much better than you are at a casino and skillful players can earn a consistent return. I know I have!
