Peace Total Heroes #3: Louise Schneider (Graffiti - Granny)
With this slogan and the related topic, the Swiss Louise Schneider wanted to draw attention to the fact that the Swiss National Bank buys war materials from the armaments industry or gives them loans. In other words, the bank is complicit in wars that violate international law, especially in the Middle East. "I am a pacifist, a threefold mother, and have always been against war and poverty, but as long as there are weapons nothing will change!" Says Louise Schneider, who has been involved in the peace movement since the 1980s and initiated Easter marches and other peaceful demonstrations.
But the 86-year-old peace activist was not content just to say it or to demand it in talks, interviews and demonstrations. Although she has arthritis in her hands, she learned to handle a spray can and went straight to the Swiss National Bank in Bern to spray the slogan "MONEY FOR WEAPONS KILLS" in big and red letters on the facade.
Several police officers arrived promptly, arrested Louise, drove her to the police station and interrogated her. But after a short while, she was released, and the bank did not sue her for no further negative publicity.
Nevertheless, the story went around the world and proves that one is never too old and it is never too late to resist and to fight for world peace, freedom and love.
