How Companies Use Fear As A Tool Into Making You Buy Their Products

Consumerism isn't a word we take lightly, especially in this modern age of rising demand for diverse products and services. As time passes, our want surpasses our need, which leads us into buying things that we don't even require in our daily lives, but end up buying anyways because of all the clever marketing strategies that companies use on us to make more profits.

Majority of the most successful companies in the world use fear as a marketing tool in their advertisements into making us believe that we're incomplete without their products. This is especially true for all the beauty product companies out there focused mainly on women.

All those companies trick you into thinking that buying and using their products will make you significantly more attractive and therefore more appealing as a partner, whereas not buying their products will make you feel bad about your own self image, which in all honesty, is complete bullshit.

The False Satisfaction

Have you ever bought something really expensive and it looked really good on you in the trial room but when you tried it on at home, it doesn't look as good as it did in the shop? That's because the shop's staff is trained to compliment you into thinking that the outfit they pick out for you is usually the best one. Not to mention that those outfits are also usually the ones that empty your pockets.

"But it's my money. I'll buy whatever I want" is what I usually get from the people whom I try to explain this concept. People think that buying some famous products will give them the reputation they were looking for among their group of friends. But that again, is bullshit.

That reputation, if you were able to create one using that "famous product" in the first place, will only last till any newer or more famous product replaces it's popular value and now the one you bought earlier is no longer the topic of hot gossip.

A great example would be iPhones. Let's be honest, as amazing as the tech might be, people usually forget or stop caring for the previous models as soon as the new one drops.

Contentment Is The Key

Instead of letting some marketing strategies decide what we should or should not buy, why not just be content with what we have? Don't confuse your happiness with the craving for a specific product. Learn how to isolate your needs with your wants. You really don't need to doubt your self-image just because an ad campaign tells you to do so.

Being enough with yourself and what you have will not only save you a ton of money but will also teach you how to spend your money wisely and help you escape this trap of false consumerism.
