Monero & CryptoNote family mining

in #monero7 years ago (edited)

As with any other coin, there are tons of miner software's and pools available. Since I use GNU/Linux in a RAM booted from a USB stick on the DIY rigs which doesn't maintain any state / persistence at all, xmr-stak is a very handy miner that supports Nvidia GPUs, CPUs & AMD (I have not tested.)

Quick run down of the setup:

  • stripped down GNU/Linux Debian Testing
  • Everything updated except for the Meltdown/SPECTRE patches
  • custom Kernel

Compiling the source is easy with the instructions

  • One thing you may find anywhere documented is, how the configuration file is generated : it gets auto generated during the first run and we can tweak it further.

With MinerGate, the following should work & it will auto-generate the necessary config files.

xmr-stak --currency monero -u [email protected] -o xmr.pool.minergate.com:45560

note that without tweaking, the settings which is clearly documented, a small percentage of the computing power is allotted for the developer.

resulting hashes from the pool:

Other coins like Aeon can be mined and lite versions should be giving a better hash rate.

AEON mining (Linux, Windows, MacOS)

AEON has lesser difficulty than monero and xmr-stak can mine AEON as well. With minergate, the command-line is the following:

xmr-stak --currency aeon -u [email protected] -o aeon.pool.minergate.com:45690

I have never mined xmr before, i think ill start soon, any suggestions mate?

I'm one of the lazy ones. Just downloaded the Minergate GUI and just 1 click to run after installation and it's mining XMR merged mining with XDN. I was a big fan of XDN as a miner and it payed off. The price is 20 times higher from the low it had and my only regret is that I didn't bought a bunch on Bittrex.

Too bad the project doesn't have much development going. XMR is a stupid unusable mess and then I found this:
