Around a year after the Blue Whale Challenge , a new game called ‘Momo Challenge’ is reportedly encouraging children to perform dangerous challenges all over the world. The Momo challenge, viral on social media platforms, especially in WhatsApp, is allegedly linked to the death of a 12-year-old girl in Argentina , the Buenos Aires Times reported.

What is Momo Challenge?

In he Momo Challenge , reportedly started on Facebook , members were “challenged” to communicate with an unknown number, according to The Sun report. When the initial contact with a user is established, the Momo account sends a number of challenges and activities that are to be completed in time to meet ‘Momo’. It involves such challenges that encourage children to engage themselves in a series of violent activities that end with suicide. If any user refuses to follow the game’s orders and instructions, Momo start threatening him with violent images . The account appears to be connected to three numbers in Mexico, Japan, and Columbia.

‘Momo’ is a social media account on popular platforms that use an image of a doll with horrid features, large eyes and a wide mouth to set on curiosity among children, the Sun report stated . The weird image of the woman with bulged out eyes and a distorted smile wasn’t intended to use for evil deeds and it is actually of a sculpture which was created by Link Factory, a Japanese special effects company. The artwork, called Mother Bird by Link Factory, is inspired by the work of a Japanese artist Midori Hayashi, who has no connection and association with the challenge.

Deaths linked to Momo Challenge.

The Argentina Police are linking the death of a 12-year-old to this game. The girl filmed her activities immediately prior to the suicide on her phone. Authorities suspect someone had encouraged her to take her own life, the Buenos Aires Times reported .

The Momo Challenge also reported in India.

Northern districts of West Bengal in India are under the grip of fears induced by 'Momo challenge' after two people committed suicide and one received invitation to play the death game over the past few days.
Eighteen-year-old Manish Sarki of Kurseong in Darjeeling district of West Bengal hanged himself in a pigsty on August 20 spray painting words 'doped', 'Illuminati', 'hanged man' and the name of a girl. His parents suspect that Manish, who had played the game, committed suicide because of it.
Aditi Goyal (26), also of Kurseong, committed suicide on August 21. Maid found him hanging in her room. Police are investigating whether the suicide has any links with the game. The same day, on August 21, Jalpaiguri resident Kabita Rai received an invitation to play the game after she expressed her desire of commit suicide on the social media.

A college student from Jalpaiguri went to cops to report an invitation of the deadly Momo game, cops in West Midnapore’s Daspur went to the home of a Class-X student, who had installed the game in his phone and counselled him phone and counselled him on the perils of attempting to play the deadly game.

CAUTIONS:

1. Don't start it.

It is so easy and seems like such fun. All you need is to avoid any anonymous international WhatsApp number that you can get on many popular sites and a scary momo icon that you can now download from many of options.

Most young offenders love to show off their handiwork and there's usually a confidante. Please don't encourage your friends. This is not a harmless school prank - this is a digital crime and this could be life-threatening for someone who doesn't know better. So if you suspect anything, get help.

3. Don't spread it.

Don't spread viral messages with scary pictures, talking about the challenge and providing contradictory stories.

4. Don't play it.

If you get a friend request from an anonymous or unknown number, do not accept it . Do not engage.

5. Clean up your phone and your computer.

Try to clean up your phone and computer system.

6. Face your fears.

If you face any threat from anyone - Momo or otherwise - do the right thing. Get help - from friends, parents, authorities and police . No one can make you do anything you don't wish to do.
