Finally, a mobile that doesn’t need charging
The first battery-free mobile phone has been invented, signaling the end of chargers and dying handsets
Claimed To Be First of Its Type, The Wi-Fi Signals And Light To Operate
Professor Shyam Gollakota, a member of the research team at the University of Washington said: “We have built what we believe is the first functioning cell phone that consumes almost zero power
The team, involving computer scientists and electrical engineers, eliminated a power hungry step in most modern cellular transmissions
The battery-free phone still does require a small amount of energy (3.5 microwatts) to perform some operations
Mobile will harvest this small amount of energy from two different sources
The battery-free phone protype can operate on power gathered from ambient radio signals transmitted by a base station up to 31feet away.
Ambient light with a tiny solar cell (Size of a rice grain) fixed on the phone
Researcher, Joshua Smith said: “The cellphone is the device we depend most today. So if there were one device, you did want to be able to use without batteries, it is the cellphone
The proof of concept we’ve developed….could impact every day devices in the future”

I'd be concerned about the wireless waves. Telsa became extremely ill when he started experimenting with wireless power. I think there are safe ways to do it but we haven't figured it out yet. Here's an interesting doc on the health risks associated with wireless if your interested>It changed the way I do a lot of things.
