Wonder which are the world's 5 most popular smartphones? Smartphones that shipped most in terms of units as well as hold maximum marketshare globally? Research firm Strategy Analytics Smartphone Model Tracker (SMT) claims to keep a track of the same. Here are 5 smartphones that 'sold' most during the first quarter of 2017.

Topping the list is Apple's latest flagship smartphone -- iPhone 7. The smartphone is the world's most shipped smartphone during the first quarter of 2017. Some 21.5 million units of Apple iPhone 7 shipped worldwide in Q1 2017, capturing 6 percent global marketshare.

At No. 2 position is another Apple flagship -- iPhone 7 Plus, the big-screen variant of iPhone 7. Apple is reported to have shipped 17.4 million units of iPhone 7 Plus. The smartphone enjoys 5% marketshare worldwide in Q1 2017.

At No. 3 position is Oppo R9s. The smartphone, which is still to make its India debut, launched in China in October 2016. Oppo shipped 8.9 million units of the smartphone and it held 2.5% global marketshare during the first quarter of 2017.

The fourth most-popular smartphone in the world is Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) with 6.1 million units and 1.7% global marketshare. The smartphone launched in India in May 2016 at Rs 8,990 approximately.

The fifth position too is occupied by another Samsung smartphone, Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016). The South Korean giant shipped 5 millions units of the smartphone and held 1.4% global marketshare during the period. Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) smartphone launched in India in May 2016 at Rs 13,990.
