एक कथा है -
एक राजा गंगा किनारे राज्य करता था। राजा का सवभाव से ही कर्मशील था । उसके पूर्वज वही राज्य से ही कुछ दूर रहने वाले एक ज्योत्षी को पुरोहित मान कर पूजते थे उस राजा का एक ही बेटा था जो जन्म से बहुत ही संस्कारी था बड़ा होने पर एक बार वह अपने ननिहाल गया तो वहां उसकी मुलाकात एक महापुरुष से हुई उनके वचन सुन कर उसके मन को बहुत शांति मिली ।सत्संग की समाप्ति के पश्चात उसने संत जी से नाम उपदेश की याचना की संत जी ने उसकी सच्ची श्रदा प्रेम देख कर उसे नाम की दीक्षा दी जिसकी कमाई करने से उसका मन निर्मल और निष्चल होने लगा जब वह लौट कर अपने पिता जी के पास आया तो वहां वह ज्योतिषी भी आया बैठा था । बातो ही बातो में उस ज्योतिषी को पता चला की राजकुमार किसी संत को अपना गुरु मानकर उनसे नाम उपदेश ले आया है उसे यह बात अच्छी नहीं लगी वह बिना कारण ही राजकुमार पर क्रोध करने लगा लेकिन राजकुमार उसके क्रोध करने पर भी शांत रहा क्युकी उसे इस बात का ज्ञान हो चूका था क्रोध अहंकार इर्षा और वैर जैसे रोगो का नाश गुरु शब्द की औषदि के बिना संभव नहीं है

ज्योतिषी को पुस्तकीये ज्ञान तो बहुत था लेकिन बहकती की बिलकुल समझ नहीं थी इसलिए उसके मन में अहंकार था धीरे-२ समय बीतता गया राजकुमार ने अपनी पसंद की एक खूबसूरत लड़की से विवाह कर लिया । विवाह के बाद जब वह लड़की घर आयी तो राजा ने सवभाव वश उस लड़की की जनम पटरी उसी ज्योतिष को दिखने की इच्छा प्रगट की राजकुमार तो संत की किरपा पर पूर्ण विश्वास करता था उसने राजा जो कहा की सद्गुरु के शब्द की कमाई से सभी कष्ट टल जाते है । सूली का कांटा बन जाता है उस सच्चे नाम को भूलकर कोई भी कितने ही अच्छे कर्म क्यों न करले तो भी वह भवसागर से पर नहीं हो सकता ।

सत्पुरुष फरमाते है की प्रयष्चित कर लेने से ही जीव का निस्तार हो सकता है । प्रभु का नाम ही सब पापो को नाश कर सकता है कुछ दिन पश्चात् राजकुमार आखेट के लिए जंगल में गया तभी संयोवश वह ज्योत्षी किसी कार्यवश राजा के पास आया राजा ने उससे अपनी नव वधु की जन्मपत्री देख उसका भविष्य बताने के लिए कहा । ज्योत्षी तो पहले से ही राजकुमार से अपरसन था और ऐसे अवसर की तलाश में था जिससे वह राजकुमार को निचा दिखा सके ।इसलिए जन्मपत्री देखकर उसने राजा को कहा अगर यह कन्या यहां रही तो एक दिन आपका राजपाठ चला जायगा । यह सुनकर राजा डर गया और ज्योतिष से इस मुसबित से निकलने का उपाए पूछने लगा ज्योत्षी ने खा आप आज ही इस लड़को की किसी पेटी में बांध करके उसमे कुछ हीरे जवाहरात रख कर किसी नदी में डुबो दो तो सारा संकट टल जायगा ज्योतिष य यह कर मन ही मन बहुत खुश हुआ और अपनी घर चला गया । अधिरात को को अपनी पुत्र को साथ ले कर उस पेटी को प्राप्त करने के लिए वह नदी के किनारे पहुंचा परन्तु जिसके ऊपर उस सद्गुरु का हाथ हो भला उकसा कोई कैसे नुकसान कर सकता है

उधर शिकार पर गए राजकुमार को वही रात हो गयी नींद न आने की वजह से वह भी होने साथियो के साथ वह उस नदी के पास टहलने के लिए आ निकला जब उसकी नज़र पेटी पर पड़ी तो राजा ने उस पेटी को अपनी साथियो से कहकर बाहर निकलवाया पेटी की खोलकर देखने पर उसने अपनी पत्नी को बेहोश देखकर उसके होश उड़ गए किन्तु इस बात पर भी वह रब की कोई मर्ज़ी जानकर वह चुप रहा
शिकार खेलते समय उसने एक रीछ पकड़ा था उसे उसी पेटी में डालकर उसने नदी में फिकवा दिया । उधर वह ज्योत्षी अपनी बेटे साथ नदी किनारे खड़े होकर पेटी की प्रतीक्षा कर रहा जब पेटी वहाँ तक आयी उसने अपनी बेटे से कहा आज तुम हीरे जवाहरात पाकर अमित बन जाओगे और एक सूंदर लड़की के मालिक भी बन जाओगे और वह राजकुमार खली हाथ रह जायगा

जैसे ही पेटी पास आयी, दोनों ने मिलकर उसे नदी से निकला और ख़ुशी -२ उसे लेकर घर की और चल दिए ज्योत्षी ने बेटे से दरवाज़ा बंद करके उसे अंदर वाले कमरे में ले जाकर खोलने के लिए कहा । जैसे ही उसने पेटी को खोला उसके अंदर से रीछ निकला और वह उन दोनों पर टूट पड़ा । केथे है ने जिसकी जैसी भावना होती है उसे वैसा ही फल प्राप्त होता है उस ज्योत्षी को भी राजकुमार के प्रति बुरी भावना रखने के कारण उसी अनुसार परिणाम भुगतना पड़ा ।उस रीछ ने उन दोनों को अपनी नाखुनो से चिर फाड़ दिया और उन दोनों का खून कमरे से बाहर तक आ गया जब सुबह हुई तो लोगो ने उनके घर से खून निकलता देखा तो लोगो ने जाँच की तो पता चला की पेटी से नीलके रीछ ने उनको मारा है यह बात राजा के कान तक भी पहुंची।

राजा जब वहाँ पहुंचा तो पेटी को वहाँ देख कर हैरान हो गया इतने में राजकुमार भी अपनी पत्नी को लेकर वहाँ आ गया सारी पोल खुल गयी राजकुमार ने मन ही मन अपनी सद्गुरु का लाखो बार शुक्रिया किया और अपनी पिता को भी समझाया तब राजा की भी आंख खुल गयी की यह कोई शक्ति ही थी जिसकी वजह से उसके बेटे का घर बच गया राजा ने भी उसके गुरु के पास जाकर नाम की दीक्षा ली और अपनी जीवन को सफल बनाया इस कथा से यह शिक्षा भी मिलती है की पुस्तकीये ज्ञान प्राप्त कर लेने से ही मन की शुद्धि और नेक नियत हासिल नहीं हो जाती इसके लिए समय के सत्पुरषो से भी ज्ञान लेना ज़रूरी है और बुरी नियत रखने वाले का दूसरा कोई दुश्मन हो न हो वह सव्य अपना सबसे बड़ा दुश्मन होता है .
