Earlier this week, Yahoo Finance reported a partnership between Major League Baseball (MLB) and dApp developer Lucid Sight. They will be joining forces to launch MLB crypto-collectibles on the Ethereum blockchain later this summer.
The official website for MLB Crypto Baseball is already up and running. Kenny Gersh, Executive Vice President of Gaming and New Business Ventures at Major League Baseball (MLB), said that they have been looking into digital collectibles since the early days of Crypto-Kitties.
The success of Crypto-Kitties shines light on the promise of digitized collectibles on the blockchain. An entire economy of digital-cats was created. Here on STEEM, @aggroed and @yabapmatt recently launched @steemmonsters which created a collectible trading card game that runs on the STEEM blockchain. Now giant institutions like Major League Baseball (MLB) are entering the the digitized-collectible space. The possibilities are vast and seemingly endless. A tokenized world economy is upon us.
MLB Crypto Baseball users will be allowed to spend Ethereum on digital collectibles, upgrades and more in-game merchandise. A secondary market will allow users to make trades or sell their digital collectibles to other players for Ethereum.
The first 100 users that sign up to MLB Crypto Baseball will receive a free digital collectible. Additional collectibles will be rewarded to those who invite their friends to join. The game will be available on a website at launch, but eventually mobile applications will be created.

Damn! I feel like that's gonna be a huge step for crypto-adaptation. I remember reading something about the MLB prospectively getting into crypto a few days ago, but it didn't specify in what way they were. People are definitely going to buy into that; baseball fandom is a huge win for crypto haha!

Yes it’s really exciting! Can’t wait to see what kind of dApps will be released to go along with them...
But also I think Ethereum was not the greatest choice of blockchain. Too many scaling issues at the moment. STEEM would work much better :)
