Miss Universe 2021 - Harnaaz Sandhu
Miss Universe 2021 was held on 13 December 2021 at Universe Dome in Eilat, Israel. This is the 70th miss universe event. It was won by Harnaaz Sandhu of India. Her full name is Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu. She was born on March 3, 2000, at Kohali in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab. She was the 3rd Indian who has won this title after Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen.
Miss Universe is an annual international beauty contest run by the US. Undoubtedly, it is one of the most-watched contests in the world. This contest has over 500 million audiences in more than 190 countries. Along with all the other pageants like Miss World, Miss Earth, and Miss International, Miss Universe is one of the Four big International Beauty pageants.
Till now India has got 3 Miss Universe titles, 6 Miss World titles, and 1 Miss Earth title. This country has won a total of 10 victories and 77 placements.
Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu was brought up in the village of Gurdaspur. She also has an elder brother called Harnoor. They belong to the Jat Sikh family.
Sandhu started her competition in pageantry back when she was a teenager. Miss Chandigarh-2017 and Miss Max Emerging Star India-2018, winning such tiles gave her confidence to come forward to take participate in pageantry. Although she participated in this contest without her father's consent. Later she informed her father when she won those titles. Sandhu also won the title of Femina Miss India Panjab 2019. After that, she competed in Femina Miss India and placed in the top 12.
Sandhu is provoked by her mother, who defied patriarchy to become a successful doctor and household matriarch. Harnaaz Sandhu worked at health camps with her mother where she helped other women with their health and menstrual hygiene, and she was inspired by her mother to help other women in the same way her mother did.
Harnaaz is a strong supporter of women's emancipation, particularly their constitutional rights to education, careers, and freedom of choice, and is acutely aware of the privilege her mother's battles have bestowed on her. Harnaaz is a professional actor who has two Punjabi LMS set for release in 2022, and she hopes to play characters in films that defy gender preconceptions.
