Eradication of Polio in Pakistan
Pakistan, Nigeria and Afghanistan are the only three countries among the world with ongoing polio virus transmission. Pakistan is in the last stage of polio eradication. The number of polio cases is decreased strikingly in last few years.

In this Table, we can clearly assume that Pakistan is in the last stage of eradication of Polio virus transmission. Currently, the virus is concerned in only three areas, which includes the Khyber-Peshawar corridor, Karachi and the Quetta block.
The government of Pakistan is supporting the polio eradication programe. Media played its role very efficiently, due to which the programme has now access to almost all the children of Pakistan. In North Waziristan, due to efforts of Pak Army, this programme get access to half million children, who were previously unreachable.
A dedicated network of 250,000 Sehat Muhafiz (Health Protector) are the Centre of effort. Less than 0.05% parents refuse vaccination in highest risked areas.
They use combination of inactive polio vaccine (IPV) and Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV). Combinedly these two provides stronger immunity, IPV strengthens immunity in Blood while OPV strengthens immunity in gutp
