Have You Heard Of ''The Clean 15''? Living Healthy On a Budget! Avoiding Chemicals... + Papaya Breakfast Recipe!

in #minnowtowhale7 years ago (edited)

Once upon a time in the ages of chemical farming.. there appeared a list on ''mother internet'', some surfers call this special list ''The Clean 15''. The rumors say this magical list has an evil twin brother,''The Dirty Dozen'' they call this one.. Free image of pixabay(including top image)

There is  a warfare going on ''mother internet'', a warfare between "The Rebellious Health Conscious Surfers", and "The Chemical Farming Industry"! "The Rebellious Health Conscious Surfers" are part of the Resistance..

..A few years back there was a group testing foods for chemical residues, they were called ''The EWG, The Environmental Working Group''. This particular group was testing fruits and vegetables every year for pesticide, fungicide, herbicide and insecticide residues. They made a list of 48 fruits and veggies, and the first in the list have the most chemical residues, and as you've already guessed, the last have the least.

Out of this list, they took the last 15 and called them ''The Clean 15'', starting the list with 'the least pesticide residue containing' greens.

The first 12 candidates in the list became the most feared among "The Rebellious Health Conscious Surfers",
"The Dirty Dozen", starting the list with 'the worst pesticide residue containing' greens. Free image of pixabay

One day this precious list fell into the hands of The Resistance, and they decided this was very valuable! So they did everything they could to spread this knowledge on "Mother Internet" hoping this would wake people up to this horrible chemical warfare on the industrialized farmlands...

I hate to say this, but one of the top Queens of "The Fruit Kingdom" has become a horrible victim of the chemical warfare on the industrialized farmlands... The Strawberry! Free image of pixabay

But first let us look at the "The Clean 15" , the latest update of the year 2017 is:

  1. Sweetcorn (warning, watch out for GMO-corn)
  2. Avocados
  3. Pineapple
  4. Cabbage
  5. Onions
  6. Sweet Peas (frozen)
  7. Papaya (warning:  some papayas like, the Hawaiian kind for example, are GMO)
  8. Asparagus
  9. Mangos
  10. Eggplant
  11. Honeydew
  12. Kiwi
  13. Cantaloupe
  14. Cauliflower
  15. Grapefruit

So these are precious fruits and veggies that you can buy non-organic, and don't have to worry to much about chemicals. Just be careful with the 2 warnings for GMO's, in the US some kinds are GMO but not a lot, also some kinds of summer squash are GMO.

Now it is time for 'the most feared some'! The evil twin brother.. "The Dirty Dozen".

  1. Strawberries
  2. Spinach
  3. Nectarines
  4. Apples
  5. Peaches
  6. Pears
  7. Cherries
  8. Grapes
  9. Celery
  10. Tomatoes
  11. Sweet Bell Peppers
  12. Potatoes

This was it for the evil twin!

If you really cannot afford it, or live in a place where you cannot find organic food, you can always buy baking soda.. wash the dirty dozen in a bowl of water with 2 tbsp of baking soda. It will help a little bit to clean the outside layer but remember the fruit absorbs some chemical residues too. So try to avoid The Dirty Dozen a little bit, don't eat them every day. Go for The Clean 15 as much as you can!

After this painful news about "The Dirty Dozen" I would like to bring some sunshine in this post again, by celebrating a very healthy fruit from the tropical lands... The Papaya!!    Free image of pixabay

I think this fruit is under appreciated by some.. I have to admit the first times I ate it, I was like...hmmmm...strange taste.. But after reading a little about this fruit and it's amazing health benefits, I tried to do something with it to mask its flavor, but now I adore the delicious The Papaya!

And I would love to share "The Recipe"  it is an easy to make, breakfast recipe!

First of all, don't throw away the seeds if you need some extra health supplementation! These seeds contain some powerful potential healing benefits!  Phone camera

For example they are good against parasites and good for detoxification. I don't want to scare off some readers with all the info, so if you would like some more information on papaya seeds and the fruit itself go to:

And now it is time for this amazing delicious breakfast recipe!

Ingredients:

  • A small papaya
  • 3 tbsp of coconut flakes
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp flaxseed (crushed in a mortar)
  • Greek yogurt
  • Honey (I prefer the dark honey in yoghurt)

Preparation:

Cut the papaya in half. Scoop out the seeds with a spoon, if you want to keep them, rinse them with water and let them dry on a paper towel. Start cutting the papaya in cubes of 1cm. Put the cubes in a plate and start to sprinkle the coconut flakes, Phone camera

chia- and flax seeds on top.

Then take the preferred amount of yogurt and put it on top. Now finish it off with a good drizzle of good honey. Phone camera

As a another healthy variation to this breakfast, you can substitute the yoghurt for goat milk and use it to make oats. Put the milk on the cooking stove, set it to medium high and add the oats. After a couple of minutes when the oats are ready, pour them over the papaya with the coconut fiber and seeds, and add the honey.

Now sit back, relax and enjoy this delicious breakfast. Let it nourish your body! Go to food heaven...

Woohoo! That was a big one! Thanks so much for this!

So informative as usual! I love Greek yoghurt, I put it on everything!

Even honey has so many chemicals, and most is irradiated, so I always buy pure and raw honey straight from the farmers!

Same here, I love greek yoghurt too and buy raw ecologic honey whenever I can 😆

This is awesome! Definitely saving these lists for reference :) I've seen previous years dirty dozen lists, but I'd never thought to look at the clean 15. Thanks for sharing this! I've followed you and look forward to seeing more of your posts.
