Anti-Abuse Team Weekly Report #27

Friday - March 9th - 2018

As more and more of the actual management of the bot and it's functions becomes automated, more and more of the team is able to lend a hand in checking content and catching multiple-account abuse. This means we are seeing a much more steady increase in the numbers each week.

The details of this weeks prune of the member-list -

  • 15556 Members before this week's prune was run. (1086 new accounts since last week)
  • 30 Day Prune has removed 319 dead accounts. (32 more were removed this Prune.)
  • This leaves our count at 15237 Members after the prune.
  • ~1480 Peak Concurrent users this week. (Steady growth.)

Updated stats on Bans and Blacklist -

  • 2355 Discord bans (+121 new from previous)
  • 2726 accounts in total are now Blacklisted by @minnowsupport (+169 from previous!)

The Charts

Member count data over time:

This shows the trend of members gained over time. I use the number of users counted after each purge each week.

Blacklist Counts by Type:

This gives a breakdown of the major categories we list an account under in our Blacklist.

In summary:

New member growth is slowing a bit, but we are just about positive at this point that it has to do with more of the serial abusers realizing it won't work and giving up.

A quick review of things that get you blacklisted:

  • A single image or even multiple images, with very little text or only a basic bit of information with it.
  • An embedded YouTube or DTube video with zero additions to the post that provide value.
  • Attempting to gain multiple upvotes outside our 1 per cool-down by any means.
  • Any major violation of our community guidelines and rules. (This usually has to do with treatment of other users on the platform.)

Not all of these result in a ban from Discord since we want you to learn and improve.

How is pruning actually determined? Shortly after creating my original account I did a clean wipe of Firefox and a reinstall to clear up some script errors. When I returned to my Steemit account I realized to my horror that I hadn't backed up my password.

I'd love for my original account to be pruned and if it can be, would I be able to get a name change? The reason I ask is BuzWeaver is my brand name across all my social media. Thanks your help is greatly appreciated.

When we speak of Prune, it refers only to their Discord account using the controls given to any server on Discord to remove idle or dead accounts.

If you are referring to Steemit accounts, they are permanent and part of the chain forever.

Thanks sheriff! Interesting to see a Slow down in growth, but consistent still. If every member that joined delegated 1sp for every 25/50 they had we could support this rapid growth. Do you think the abuse numbers will eventually decrease as well?

A lot of the new joins are likely unable to delegate even 1 SP due to being new. Our best delegation support needs to come from larger accounts wanting to support the platform.

As for the abuse decreasing, not likely. As we have grown the percentage of new users who are abusers has stayed the same, so as an absolute number, it will actually grow as a problem. The only way to remove abuse entirely would be to remove the upvote bot entirely.

So where is this blacklist published so users aren't stolen from by thieving bot owners?

Our blacklist doesn't monitor bot owners, only the users who attempt to violate the rules we have in place for our free upvote bot.

I know, I want to see the blacklisted users, a thieving bitch bit owner placed me on their secret blacklist and stole sbd from me by breaking a contract for service. Show me the blacklist please.

MSP Blacklist

Keep in mind that our blacklist only really applies to the use of our bot on Discord.

Thank you for the information. I have so much to learn. :)
