SteemSQL Analysis #1: Why YOU Should Join PALnet!

What's PALnet?

If you've been living under a rock and haven't heard, PALnet is the Peace, Abundance and Liberty Network. Hundreds of Steemians are in the public Discord channel daily and is open to the public (https://discord.gg/HYj4yvw).

What's the point?

The Steemit community continues to grow on a daily basis. PALnet is there to support people of all ranks (especially minnows) within the community with advice and access to bots for upvoting.

Now, on to some analytics.

I apologize in advance if this analysis does not bring much value to you. I'm still learning the Steem database and have yet to fully understand the potential (even though this analysis took me several hours to build).

Hypothesis: Joining the PALnet community and utilizing the bots will bring more value ($ + upvotes) to your posts.

I will be doing a comparison between blog posts that have been upvoted by @minnowsupport vs blog posts that have not been upvoted by @minnowsupport for the same authors.

Note:

The values that will be shown are queried on 6/21/17 at 11:30 PM PST. I'm not sure what intervals the database is updated, but the data is fairly recent. This whole post can be about explaining the logic behind the query - so I'll save you the burden of a lengthy post and only note the necessary information for filtering the data.

Conditions:

  • I created the date interval of posts created from 3/1/17. The main reason for this is because I wanted to have relatively newer posts so the data was not TOO inflated with extremely old posts that may not have been given much $ or upvotes.
  • The end date of 6/13/17 was chosen because it is 7 days before HF19 and I didn't want HF19 to impact the total value data of the posts.
  • The query is filtering out comments and only focuses on blog posts created by the author.
  • The total count of users is ~ 200 based on the conditions above.

Step 1: Identifying authors who have posts that were upvoted by @minnowsupport.

    Query:

    Result Set 1:

Step 2: Identifying the same authors who have posts that were not upvoted by @minnowsupport.

    Query:

    Result Set 2:

    Step 3: Average Results

    1. Average of column D from Result Set 1 = 35.01
    2. Average of column F from Result Set 1 = 56.59
    3. Average of column D from Result Set 2 = 11.17
    4. Average of column F from Result Set 2 = 33.58

    Step 4: Calculate Value Added

    • Average Multiplier of Value per post with @minnowsupport: 35.01/11.17 = 3.13
    • Average Multiplier of Votes per post with @minnowsupport: 56.59/33.58 = 1.69

    Conclusion:

There you have it. Joining the PALnet community and utilizing the bots will bring more value ($ + upvotes) to your posts.

Those are some long-ass SQL statements :)

Short SQL statements are no fun
