Venezuela: Imperfect Democracy or Perfect Dictatorship?

in #minnowsupport6 years ago

John Kerry, being The US Secretary of State, said: "Venezuela is an example of imperfect democracy"

We all understand democracy as "the government of the majority or the masses," and we know that there are no perfect democracies. The democratic system has a lot of flaws, and these are the ones that have led us to critical scenarios. Even so; and I quote Winston Churchill’s words, "Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…."

...

But to speak of democracy in Venezuela would be to recognize a regime that is far from democratic. We have to tell the truth. Although many want to deny it and get angry, in our country we have not lived in democracy for a long time. I think that people ignore these things on purpose, as a denial, because it does not fit in their minds that the "beautiful Venezuela" is prey to a small and diabolical group. But it is the reality. You do not need to be an expert to realize that it is not democratic to control public powers or to demonize political parties. It is not democratic to see the disenchantment of the population as treason. It is not democratic to prohibit talking about the person directly responsible for the economic disaster. It is not democratic to be told what you can or can not buy. It is not democratic to forbid protests or censure the press. It is not democratic that they want to force you to listen to a continuous preaching about the achievements and advances ;( that nobody sees), of a fictitious "revolution".

...
This is a regimen that was born with a malformation. Being integrated by coup plotters and responsible for the deaths of innocents, it served as a "teratogenic agent", causing the structural abnormalities it manifests. That desire to eternalize in power and control everything and everyone grew as a strange organism with destructive appetites, like that evil twin of Edward Mordake, who spoke to him things, "that only hell knows," while he slept. That’s the reality.

...
I wish, at least, we lived in an imperfect democracy. Because, knowing that perfection does not exist, you can correct the faults of it. But a dictatorship has no remedy but to eradicate it from the root.
