Five Reasons Why I SteemitsteemCreated with Sketch.

When I was first introduced to steemit by @tomtrademore in mid-July I was inspired. It had been almost two years since I had written a word. In the past I had written hundreds, if not thousands of online articles, I had spent 14 years as a newspaper reporter and staff writer, I had published over 20 novels, written dozens and dozens of books as a ghost writer for other authors and had a blog.

But a few years ago, my auto-immune disease got the best of me and I took time off. I quit my full-time job, became a borderline recluse and pulled all my ebooks off the internet. My goal was actually re-edit and re-publish. But my health had other plans. (Some day I will re-edit and publish my novels again under my pen name, but for now, I am getting my feet wet on steemit).

When I first arrived on the steemit scene, I knew nothing about cryptocurrency; and to be honest,I still don't. But I am not here for the financial aspect of the website. I am here to write.
At an early age, I had always known I wanted to write. While in high school my English teacher pushed and pushed me (at the time I despised her for it), but looking back now, I wish I could thank her.

On to the reasons I am on steemit...

  1. I want to build a following. I lost contacts from years ago; whether they moved on or I was absent. Plus I am not the same person I was before. My interests and genre has changed. I want to develop a brand of who I am and I believe that steemit is the place to do it.

  2. I want to build not only a platform, but extend it into a business. Most hosting domain websites charge too much, offer limited support, even though they offer customer support and can become a burden on top of meeting deadlines, perfecting your writing style and putting out quality work that deserves merit. I don't have time to deal with the expense and considering I am back to writing after such a long hiatus, I let my old domain(s) expire.

  3. I have always been a knowledge seeker and being on steemit has opened my horizons to new people and topics. I am a book work and library nerd, so when I am offered up some good text with supporting facts (and lively pictures) I am in my glory. The expansion of my mind with the plethora of information offered here is astounding.

  4. When I delve into someone else's post and it interests me, I will start thinking even more into the topic. Usually from reading one quality post, I can come up with two of my own. I have a folder with millions of sticky notes and index cards with ideas and topics.

  5. The last reason and not even close to being high on my priority list, but I still feel the need to mention it, is the aspect of earning money and learning more about cryptocurrency. The idea, and chance, of providing a nice retirement nest egg from my writing via steemit is appealing.
