WHY I MIGHT BE SWITCHING BACK TO MINNOWBOOSTER | UPVOTE SELLING - MINNOWBOOSTER VS SMARTSTEEM
It's simple Math!
@minnowbooster was offering 75% of the sbd payment received to user who sold their upvotes via minnowbooster service in the past. Then I came across @smartsteem which offer almost the exact same service (additional feature for upvoting selected users or whitelist users with different smartscore stars) for users to sell their upvotes and get paid 85% of the sales.
I was using minnowbooster when i just started selling upvotes on steemit. Sometimes it's good to have competition, consumers/users get choices and 'force' the service provider to be more competitive and add value. After i came across smartsteem, i did the math and calculations then follow by actual testing to sell upvotes on both service provider. Shortly after i decided to switch over totally to smartsteem with 3 reasons :
- Much better ROI of selling upvotes on steemit. 10% different is alot and even much more if your steempower is much higher.
- Though both offer referral bonus, minnowbooster wasn't clear about the referral bonus. Smartsteem offer clear referral bonus. You get 0.5% of the profit from the upvotes sold by people you referred. Plus Referral section to see rewards from your referrals.
- [updated] Offer 3 options to sell upvotes, this special feature from option 2 and 3 gives your upvote chance of becoming more valuable as smartsteem already whitelist users who post good to excellent content (by their own rating) thus upvoting those good content post the 'chance of' getting better curation rewards (not 100%) is higher but it's still subject to many other factors.

You can see from this table, the sbd earnings different on minnowbooster when it was offering 75% of sales compare to now at 85% of the sales.

They took action and made themselves more competitive and add even more value to users.
Here's the reasons Why i switch back to minnowbooster to sell my upvotes.
- Minnowbooster now offer 85% of profit from upvotes on par with smartsteem
Smartsteem upvote earnings of 0.019 sbd for selling an upvote value of 0.05 sbd
Minnowbooster upvotes earnings of 0.007659 sbd for selling an upvote value of 0.02 sbd
- Minnowbooster now offer 1.5% referral bonus compare to smartsteem 0.5%
This is what they advertise but yet to be test and get actual data. On the @minnowbooster platform they doesn't have a dropdown section for referral or mentioned anywhere on their platform about the 1.5% referral bonus. Maybe @thecryptodrive can give them a poke =)
It would be make the offer even more attractive if either service provider can offer referral bonus for delegation SP / SP leasing. Let's see who does it first ?

Switch back testing
I disable upvote selling on smartsteem and turn on upvote selling on minnowbooster,
- To test the 85% of sales
- Take advantage of the additional 0.5% referral bonus only if you sell upvote this week
It took quite awhile for the upvote selling to be trigger again. At first i thought it was bugged, tried different methods like turn on and off, logout/login etc and ask for help on minnowbooster discord. Maybe my vote value is too low (in the past it was really quick to trigger when my vote value was smaller) or maybe there are more vote sellers as you can see the graph used to be 0.15 and below now it's almost 0.30 (CORRECTION OMG, just went to check and it increase 1.5+ no wonder it's so hard to sell upvotes everyone rushing to sell their upvotes on minnowbooster =)
Currently my voting power is already above the limit i set on minnowbooster for upvotes selling but no new upvotes triggered. Maybe due to the influx rush of this promotion, supply more than demand, need to wait awhile to get the market and system stabilise.
Meanwhile my strategy would be keep both service on. Set higher voting power limit on smartsteem and lower voting power limit on minnowbooster. ie 99% on smartsteem and 95% on minnowbooster. If the upvotes selling doesn't trigger on minnowbooster and the voting power keep charging till 99% then smartsteem will take over and trigger upvotes selling so the voting power is not wasted.
[update 16 Mar 2018] It seem harder get sell upvotes on minnowbooster compare to last time when i was using them. Whenever i adjust lower the voting power, the selling of upvotes triggered within minutes if not seconds. 6hrs later after i enabled vote selling on minnowbooster, i only manage to get 1 upvote triggered. Compare to smartsteem, I m able to get my upvotes triggered whenever the voting power rise above the limit i set. Luckily i had the strategy to turn on both service provider with different setting, else i might be wasting the full capacity voting power.

Hi there onepercentbetter, thanks for the review and for highlighting also SmartSteem pros.
I have one critic, since you could not yet sell your votes is hard to know if it is working or not. As I have seen before MB is quite full with small SP users which make it hard for some users to ever sell even one vote.
The interface is not as clean as the one from SS and considering the team is much smaller it tells you about the commitment behind.
Also, what about the values behind each project? The main reason I support fully SmartSteem is because it will be the only organic and sustainable market for voters in the long run. You have the Whitelist perk, which for myself allows me to decide what type of users I want to support.
So, even if as you said the profits are pretty much the same (besides the alleged 1.5% referral bonus), you are missing the quality support that comes from the Whitelist, plus the Blacklist for spammers, plagiarism, etc.
Just give it a though and see yourself what kind of platform you want,is it at the end 1% more a reason to support one over the other?

Yeah the whitelist option is ++ point, i didn't go more in depth, updated my post.
I do read some of the auto upvote posts as a form of discovery. There are some users who just want to sell their upvote and other grp who want to make additional income via referral bonus, 0.5% compare to 1.5% it's 3X plus if the referred quantity scale or referred with high SP that 3X different can be quite significant. (Well that if the 1.5% really work, thus i m testing to see if what they advertise match what user receive)
Btw you guys have another ace in pocket which is the buying of upvotes that use multiple account selling upvotes. brilliant feature ! Which match perfectly with the selling of upvotes feature.

Interesting. Although my own MAP Rewarder does not pay daily - it is a managed fund - the APR has been higher than both your examples. You may wish to diversify further!

The current drop in STEEM and SBD prices will affect returns, but in our case even a low but stable price should yield similar returns.
I also note that daily returns for upvotes have dropped further - I calculate less than 0.05% (based on SP/STEEM).although higher once other features taken into account, such as curation rewards and 50-50 split.

i just did a calculations, on steem downtrend, MAP still yield abt 0.082% per day outperform most of the delegation return to bidbot out there. I wonder when the price pickup can it also outperform the bidbot return ? Thanks for sharing =)
To outperform the bidbots is possible, but requires more post rewards - as you know, using the bidbots can make the rewards appear larger, but they are not pure profits.
Also, because our upvotes are obviously made in SP, and curation rewards are received in SP, and our payouts are made in STEEM, the actual dollar prices of STEEM and SBD are not so crucial, however, they do affect post rewards. Also, as I mentioned in last Sunday's post, falling prices are not good as they erode pending rewards.
