So you got a GPU and started mining. You liked it so much much you got another one and another and maybe 4 more. You may end up with a mess of wires and hot, whirling GPU fans. You want to get a rig, but you look online and see the most affordable options floating around ~$150 USD. You may have spent up to a few pretty pennies for your GPU’s, but clench your wallet tightly for any extra cost. Here’s how to build your own mining rig with a quick trip to the hardware store.

I used the basic guide from ‘This is Mining’ (vid below )with a few tweaks for myself:

The difference with my build is that I used only 1x1” pieces in my build, cut from 60” stakes. I also doubled the amount of GPU’s it could hold by making a mirror image of the shelf on the other side.

Supplies Bought:

(5) 60 inch long, 1x1 inch - yard stakes(for a lateral and horizontal pieces)
quarter inch thick 24"x24" piece of plywood (for base)
Pack of 1 1/4" Wood screws (seemed like appropriate length, worked great)

Building

I measure all the pieces first, then made the cuts. I then used a drill to put all the posts into the base. Then fixed all the horizontal pieces in place using wood screws and a drill.

Turned out quite nice actually, an afternoon of work and sturdy rig frame as the result. Rough cost $29.

Conclusion

Frame has held well and zip ties are a cheap option to secure GPU'S to the frame. If you have a few tools around and you're handy enough, Its a fun weekend project. Still a lot better than having them sprawled out on a table. One badly out of frame final pic below.
