GPU Cryptocurrency Mining - MSI GeForce GTX 760 Graphics Card

This is the GPU that I cut my cryptocurrency mining "teeth" on, the MSI GeForce GTX 760.

This GPU came into my life almost 4 years ago. I got it as part of a gaming PC for my youngest son. As you can see above, it's seen a lot of action over the years but still functions remarkably well. This GPU, made by MSI, features the Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 chip with 2GB of memory. It has 2 6 pin 12 volt power connectors and uses a lot of power compared to many of todays more powerful GPUs.

Since it is a few years old, the card uses the older Kepler chipset, as opposed to the newer Maxwell and Pascal chipsets, you may need to use older mining software. I used an older version of ccminer that supports the Kepler Chipset to mine Monero.

With the recent drop in cryptocurrency prices, I was surprised that Whattomine.com still shows that this GPU can profitably mine any coins. Since Whattomine.com does not have sample hash rates for the 760 card, I had to test the various algorithms and then plug the hashrates into the web form below. Clicking calculate will display the list of coins and their profitability.

As you can see below, Monero, thanks to it's high price and low power algorithm, is about the only coin that can be profitably mined with this GPU now. And it is just barely profitable at that.

Still, I have faith that the cryptocurrency market will eventually recover, and when it does I'll be able to cash in all the Monero this card has mined for me for a big profit.
