SUCCESS is in the eyes of the beholder

It's been a long held and widely accepted adage that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The essence of this adage is much more than beauty in the "aesthetics" of things, rather, it digs deep into being a word of comfort and encouragement that seeks to build confidence, esteem and value in the hearts of hearers.

More than often, when "aesthetically ugly" beings were about to be swung into the derision of self rejection, pity and hate, they are encouraged that sometime, they'll find their choice ally and lover.

While emphasis of this blog is not on "beauty in its aesthetic views", it bothers the author to muse and share this muse with you as it relates with the beauty of the mindset towards everything. Did you hear me say "everything?" Yes, I meant it because success has its linkage to everything

I wish to emphasize that as beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, so is success. Success has a unique face for everyone uniquely.

I so admire dictionary definitions of the term success:

• the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.
• the attainment of fame, wealth, or social status.
• a person or thing that achieves desired aims or attains fame, wealth, etc.
• the good or bad outcome of an undertaking.

We see that success is not only used with reference to a process or an act, also, it is used to refer to a personality. You will also agree with me that success has no limitation as to the person concerned as per race, colour, genotype, height, body size, affiliations, academic attainment; neither is success operation or sector-dependent.

The last definition of success as a good or bad outcome of an undertaking vividly shows that there is no universal yardstick for measuring success. Simply put, success is immeasurable in the real sense of it though, several benchmark has been set by the society, school, families, etc, yet, their scaling are often not dependable.

A Story

I got to know two twin siblings with one just 30 minutes older than the other. They are both female and were raised within same environment - academic, social, religious and facilities. They were fed with same kind of food and given same clothes. One wonderful thing that happened is that both suddenly developed variances even at a tender age of three (3). One grew taller while the other got chubby. More, one became quite a talkative while the other was very reserved. Not long, they started expressing varying passions for life. Of the two, one of them was inclined towards becoming a Medical doctor while the talkative had a consensus nod from all that she'll become a lawyer. To our dismay, she rather, expressing creative skills in art and ended up with poor grades in school. On recognizing this, a counsellor advised that the later be given vocational exposure at the expense of Western education and she now does much better beyond our expectations. Below is one of her artworks.

You see, we felt that success could have been well measured by how much good grades are obtained in school. However, the difference is clear. Success is more than the benchmark we set.

Indeed, success benchmark is best set by self. This is because success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. The end of purpose is best determined by the visioner.

Our purpose for living is quite different though we may grow from the same stuck and live within the same roof. Our essence of living is only defined by our intrinsic build which define our attitude to people and things, our perceptions about moments and our reaction to life.

If 1% of the people are successful (in their own ways), I too can be (in my own way). Success is not about people, its about you and your goals. Your perception about life is what best defines success. See life in the right perspective and succeed.
