Confirmation bias is interesting. I had always heard it used in two ways: we tend to seek information that confirms our views, and we tend to better accept information that confirms our views, or even discount information that does not confirm our views. It is hard to guard against it, but that is why we have math and logic. Still, even leading scientists are sometimes subject to these biases.

Yes and then there is the cash bias. That's when academics spin their thesis so that it will facilitate further sponsorship by the ones that want a certain outcome to be confirmed.
