Steering The Storm

"When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about."
-- Haruki Murakami, Kafka on the Shore.

How many times have you been caught up in the mental prison of over thinking? Relax, friend. You don't actually need to answer that question directly. The fact is that once in a while we find ourselves caught up with some over thinking. I mean, who doesn't? We worry that there may not be any solution(s) to our numerous problems in life.

We fear that we may get to the end of the road. Where there's no way out. Where we can't help but stare into space, with no one nearby to offer help. And no one to share our burdens with. If you've ever been here, I bid you welcome. That's what this storm is about.

If you've been through a journey in life where you feel all is lost...where you think you've lost ground...and there's no Super Man to get you out of that tunnel. Believe me, there's hope. This article is for you.

What does storm mean to you?

Oh, yeah. I guess you're probably thinking of rainstorms, hailstorms and sandstorms. However, that's not the kind of storm we'd be discussing now. In this article, our storm is a violent disturbance or commotion; a direct and violent assault on a stronghold -- in your life.

Let's face the facts. Storms must come. There is always this Sigmoid curve in everyone's life. All could be fair in love and war, but life? Life isn't fair at all! The tax officers keep knocking on your door. You try as much as possible to offset your bills but they keep piling up.

In fact, they don't seem to be anywhere near your reach...and you've got children to feed! You see your life sinking deep in debt. You're stuck in over thinking. You don't know what to do. You look right and left...there's no one to help. Life could be so cruel. We've all been there at some point or the other.

Why do you need a storm?

What storm are you battling with now? I believe you know yourself better than I do. I bet you've gotten to that point before. You perfectly understand what I mean. Your storm will change you. It will help you become stronger than you were yesterday.

Storms are there to sharpen us. They shape our thoughts, our beliefs and our general outlook about life. It all depends on how you see the whole thing. What you think about your present predicament determines how far you'd go in everything else you do.

It is true that our emotions affect our actions. It is also true that we have a control over our emotions, and thus our actions. It is now left for you to do the job of rightful thinking. Think hope. Think possible. Dream big! Have the right attitude.

In my previous article Procrastination : The Habitual Sting , which exposed several approaches to curb under performance in life, having the "I Can" attitude was cited as one of the keys for greatness. You may want to read it to understand more. Don't let that deep, blue hole swallow you all up. Do something different. Believe in yourself. There's always a silver lining in every cloud.

Is it possible to steer your storm(s)?

Steering our storms would be a great achievement for each and everyone of us. Since we all have our storms, there naturally to be some way out of them. There has to be some solution to the storms in our lives.

The irony in life is that there's always a solution to every problem. You just haven't found the solution. You just haven't found a way out. That doesn't make you dumb or stupid. That doesn't also mean that you're at a dead end. Do not put a full stop where the good Lord has put a comma in your life.

Yeah, that means that you may not have searched well enough for an answer. Keep pushing. Perseverance will always pay off if you keep trying. Just keep trying, never give up! You will get to that apex eventually.

How can you steer that storm?

Imagine if you would, a world without worries and pain. That's some utopia, you know. It's never so in our world...in this world. However, you can steer the storms in your life by letting go of the following:

1. Fear:
Believe in yourself first and the Universe will serve you. Be not inclined to fear. Fear does no good. It will stop you from stretching out your hands to reach your dreams and ambitions.

2. Disbelief in Self:
Always believe in yourself. There's no limit to what you can achieve if you do. Take out doubts and what ifs. You can do whatever you set your mind on.

3. Petty Dreams:

You've got to dream big. Aspire for goals that are good enough. Goals that are worth the try. Do away with petty dreams. You've got to dream big to be BIG!

4. Corrupt consciousness:

The mind is powerful. Do not fill your mind with corrupt, evil thoughts. Imagine only greatness and how to actualize it. Don't indulge in the creation of a corrupt consciousness for yourself. Guard your thoughts. Be positive and optimistic...always.

5. Poor imaginations:

Imagine. All we do in life is complain about our problems. Do you know that you could be the reason for that your problem. Check this out. A poor mind can never dream big! You need to get rid of that mentality. Expand your imaginations to farther horizons. The more you imagine, the greater you become. And the nearer you get to achieving your goals. Why? That's because success begins in the mind. If you can imagine it, you can do it.
