Two Hundred People

Working the door at the music venue, we’ve sold two hundred tickets to this show.

I have to say hello to all of the people who come through and take each of their tickets. This makes me think about what two hundred people is.

Two hundred people is enough to keep me busy checking tickets every few minutes for the first two hours of the show. It isn’t until after the first set is over, and I’ve checked the 150 people who actually showed up, that my job slows down.

Two hundred people is enough to raise quite a few thousands of dollars in revenue, enough to make it profitable for all involved. 💰💰

It’s enough interaction to guarantee a few good jokes and a few awkward moments.

When you meet two hundred people, just one or two or three at a time, and when you take a moment for each one to stop and appreciate them, you realize just how big a group 200 people is.

200 feels small on the screen. If I show you an Instagram post with 200 people who liked it, it feels like nothing.

Truth is that it’s never a small thing to make a few hundred people happy.

That’s a lot of people, however you reach them.

It’s too easy to forget that the internet is made up of a whole lot of real people. Every single (genuine) like and comment is a real person, a real engagement, a real good thing.

Checking in some of the last ticketholders, I crack a joke about the frown-face stamp we’re using for re-entry today.

Me: We’re all sadbois today

The guest pauses for a beat and then laughs hard, it’s so true!

These moments are cool and they're easy to take for granted.
