Second Month on Steemit! A little rant about SteemIt and some tips for complete newbies
Wow! Time flies by so quickly. I can't believe I have been here on SteemIt for two months now. If you have been following me for over a month now you'd already know that my first two-three weeks here was very hard. As what you would expect from someone with no connections or friends in this platform, It was very hard for me to interact with the people in here. You read that one right, "interact". While it is easy to write some mumbo-jumbo comments on other peoples post. It's hard to be taken seriously when you have a very low reputation and SP. I know some of you would probably say "How about you try to write insightful and heartfelt comments?" Believe me I tried, either it wasn't insightful enough that it ends up being ignored or people here prefer to interact more with people who have a decent reputation and SP. To make matters worse, I have seen authors who did reply to my comments but they'd followed it by an upvote on their own reply. I'm not really seeking for an upvote(but it would be nice to get one), but when authors reply to comments and they upvote their own reply, It kind of leaves a very bitter feeling to me. XD
Of course I am not generalizing everyone. There are also some nice people here on SteemIt. The problem is that they are not easily found. You have to dig deeper and explore to find them. Don't stay too much on the 'Trending' section. Authors there are busy people and they receive lots of comments, so if you're new to this platform you might end up disappointed from being ignored there. If you want to find someone with similar interests, use the tag section.
I believe the reason why the retention rate here is very low is because after the 'introductory post', newbies just don't know what to do next and they feel being left out and ignored. I know it's very hard to think and write something interesting, but my advice for complete newbies who are reading this, is to make it a goal to post at least once a day. Don't aim for a bigger audience, just write what you love to talk about. When I first started writing stuffs, it was all about 'CTF's'. I was fully aware that only a few people would be interested about it. At first I got only $1-$5 from it, until I got enough $ to use some upvote bots, I've got to admit that I am still relying on bots for some visibility atm. But hey, at least I got some real followers out of it. Right now, I am writing 'Anime' stuffs which let's be honest, only a few people here are interested in. But that's still not stopping me from writing about it, because eventually you will find someone with similar interests here. XD
Anyway, enough about my rant. Here are some of my achievements for the past 2 months taken from the steemitboard. As you can see below, My posts have already been upvoted 1000+ times and got a reply of over 100. Currently I have about 250+ followers, a reputation of 52 and a natural SP of 41, without investing anything. Not bad for two months right? XD
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank some people, some communities and even bots for helping me upto this point. First off, @techslut , for believing in me and being there when I literally was nothing and have nothing to offer. I will be forever thankful for all your help. Also, expect this to be a monthly thing XD. To the @qurator community for accepting me as one of their members. That was a very well spent 2 SBD , I should have registered sooner XDv More power to this awesome community. And lastly to the @minnowsupport bot which was the very first one I have used. Again, Thank you everyone! :)
congratulation dear for your achievement & advice.
wishing you a very good journey in steemit.

Good job!
I am less than one week in myself. I found that the easiest way to interact and get the odd upvote on your comments is to ignore the biggest accounts and the trending page.
Instead I focus on small to medium accounts that write stuff I am interested in. That seems to work much better in the long run. True I don't get any massive upvotes but I'd rather take a few cents here and there and enjoy myself rather than sucking up to some big shot in hope of a big hand out.
Thanks and you're right! Although I follow some of them to get a general idea on what's happening on Steem but I rarely comment. Also, here have my 2cents, sorry wasn't worth much :)
Thanks! 2 cents is plenty. The rewards are a bonus but I think as long as one actually use Steemit as a social media platform like any other then the rewards can be secondary.
Your write up is very interesting. I share the same experience and feeling as you described. We are in a place where over 90% of wealth is owned by only 2% of accounts. Steem power is extremely unevenly distributed.
We may earn reputation by hard working. But I don't think steem power is the same case. How many 0.001 Steem rewards can we power up ourselves to be an account with decent upvote value? At least a MILLION times!
I am not saying it is a SCAM. We have never paid for anything except our time. And I see there exist a handful of people (out of the 600K+ accounts) who can make a small to medium amount of income regularly. I still don't know how they make it but it is true. I believe these people have acquired some connections and skills along their way to become successful.
Start small, think big, never give up! Some day, we will be there.
I know right. But in their defense, they invested hundreds and thousands of dollars in Steem. They also stayed when Steem was at it's lowest and didn't even cost a dollar. So I guess now is the time for them to reap what they sow. :) However, I just can't help feel envious and jealous at them, especially when most of the big whales do is upvote their own comments. Lol So disheartening! And I agree, some day we will be there. Aja! XD
Thanks for your reply. Please don't mind my ugly $0.00 upvote value just for me to express my appreciation and respect.
No problem! Pleasure is all mine. I rarely get comments that long and make sense. Also, I have been in that position not long ago so I kind of understand :)
Total understand dude, i am just getting started myself.....thanks for the advice....i need to just post more. :)
