What Does Saliva Look Like Under the Microscope??

in #microscope8 years ago (edited)

When looking at saliva under the microscope, we will see a mix of bacteria, trash etc- but most noticeable are the Buccal Epithelial cells!
The Buccal Epithelial cells come from the cheek lining inside the mouth. These cells have a nucleus and contains your DNA! The nucleus is seen as a smaller dark oval circle inside the cells.
When performing a DNA / ancestry test with saliva, laboratories use these cells to extract the DNA information.
