Stitch
Here is my entry to @jayna #microfiction contest and which is also the @freewrite prompt for yesterday.
The stitch
The mother was apprehensive. Her daughter was very excited to go to school that day. It was her birthday and she was allowed to go to school, wearing a color dress as all children do on their birthdays.
They could not afford a new dress. Her daughter knew that but tried to smile bravely. She did not want the darling to feel bad. So, she asked her employer if there was a good enough 'hand me down' dress that she could give her daughter.
The employer was not very kind and gave her a dress that was quite new but had a big hole in it which her daughter had carelessly torn.
She was happy that she had got an almost new dress, anyway and decided to stitch so that the hole would not be seen. Thankfully, the girls were not in the same school.
She went home and tried to cover up as much as possible. An idea struck her and she tore a bit of lace from her old wedding dress and stitched it on so that the patchwork would not be seen.
Her daughter was so happy. Her heart felt full and she realized that true happiness could not be earned by riches but by small acts of love.

Only on birthdays could these girls wear a colorful dress? What a perspective, what a contrast to our affluent society. I grew up on a farm and Mom sewed most of our clothes, and we didn't have much, but it was waaay more than our grandma had. She forever reminded us she had only two dresses - one for Sunday - the other to wear six days a week. And now, Mom and Dad is the Tuesday prompt:

Just saw this today at Facebook:

Thanks dear. It is so happy a picture and true. so is the love for cooking and baking
The GIF is hilarious!
Schools here stress on uniforms. I guess it is to ensure that the children are treated equally. Our grandparents never had enough I guess, probably because of the war. My parents too used to talk about rations and so on. Thanks dear
Knock, knock, here's today's prompt coming to you from the coolest freewritehouse: mom and dad
