Love, like Fire, Both Dead and Alive | Microfiction

The thick fog descended upon Necrapolis, the city of the dead.

Joy stretched out her gloved hand. Her fingers disappeared, just like her husband who vanished into thin air. “Holmer?”

No response. The beating of Joy’s heart increased in tempo as the fog, like a swarm of locusts, continued its ethereal dance.

"Holmer, you there?" Ever since she told him that she had no feelings for him anymore, Holmer had been silent and out of sorts. But he proposed this second honeymoon to Turkey, a last-ditch attempt to save their decade long marriage.

Joy took a few more unsteady steps forward and nearly tripped over some large gravestones. She swore under her breath. Where was he when she needed him most?

Out of the grey abyss a brilliant light flashed. A few miles northeast, Joy saw a flame and her spirits rose. A beacon of hope was lit within her – maybe Holmer went ahead to seek for help, maybe they could get out of this cemetery alive, maybe their relationship could be saved.

Guided by the light, Joy drew nearer.

She gasped in horror.

Holmer was at once both torch and fuel to the fire, with his entire body being engulfed in flames.

This 200 hundred word piece came out of the writing workshop that we had just now with @jayna, @blueeyes8960 and @rhondak. It was my very first workshop which I attended (on my way to work) and I truly enjoyed it!

Hope that y'all will join us for the future ones too!

About the piece itself, sometimes intimate relationships can bring us the most pain. Coincidentally, I really didn't plan this today, but it's February the 14th here.

I just want to say that you never know the effects your words and actions will have on your loved ones - so

Always love, respect, cherish and treasure them!

May the sad tragedy of this story serve as a gentle reminder this Valentines Day!

Sending all of you much love ❤️
