My Trip to the Gold Coast Railroad Museum

in #miami7 years ago (edited)

I recently took a trip to the Gold Coast Railroad Museum on Steem Punk Day. And I took a bunch of pictures of all the trains there. If you're into trains then you're really going to like some of these pics. I'm only going to post about 10. Because I took over 100 pics. But I will link the the Gallery on postimage. Gold Coast Train Museum

Gold Coast Railroad Museum (GCRM) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of railroad history and culture through preservation, restoration, and education.  Home to over 40 historic railcars, including the "Ferdinand Magellan" Presidential Railcar, better known as U.S. Car No. 1. The museum also houses a model train room and numerous interactive displays.  This year, GCRM gave approximately 24,000 passengers a ride aboard our railroad.

The museum is pretty neat. There's a covered area with many train cars in good condition. With some historical train cars as well. The Presidential train car from the 40's is there. And a few NASA engines. There are also some weather beaten trains in the back lot that are weathered and have that creepy old look to them. Great for photos. Also out back is the model train building. If you like building model trains there's some neat displays that run.

History

In a bit of some sad history from the museum. They have one train car that had sections for colored and whites.

I'm also including a slideshow with all the images from youtube.

And here's a video of the train ride that you can take on the train from a previous visit. I talk to the rail guy about some of the history of the caboose we rode in.

In Conclusion

I had fun seeing and climbing on board the trains. The museum also offers a train ride around the property. The steem punk day could of been a little more exciting. But we did get there early and it seemed that everyone was getting there late anyways for it. However I recommend that if you're in Miami you should visit the place if you like trains.

I hope you enjoyed my post!

It's actually quite fun to go to. I wish they had some more events at this place.
And from the back of the museum looking in. That place reminds me of a counterstrike map.
