Giving a public speech/performance
This becomes quite difficult when we are going to give a speech or performance, like singing or dancing, in front of hundreds of people, on stage. We may become nervous, especially if it is our first public performance, but there are a few things which you may follow to let this nervousness go away and you can totally rock on stage. Let's see:
- Treat the audience as your own family: Just as you feel confident saying something or performing in front of your family or a bunch of relatives, think likewise, that audience is your own family. I read the following tip in an MBA course: 'Find four friendly faces'. It means that find four persons among the audience, sitting in different directions, and you need not to look at the whole audience, but just those ones. You will feel more comfortable and confident.
- Treat the stage as your own: Once you have come on the stage, there is no one, but you. You are the centre of attraction. People are sitting to hear you. Feel important, and feel like a rockstar! If possible, in your speech, create some humor, or some interactions with the audience, to create interest in them, else the audience may get bored.
- Be prepared: Most important! If you have come to stage without a preparation, it's natural that your confidence will come down. If you are going to sing, prepare the song fully, that you don't even need the lyrics sheet(but you may keep it just in case). just focus on your performance more, and know that the song is yours, and the audience is there to listen it. In a concert, the preparation should be 100% and you must interact with audience in your song to give a rocking performance.
- Don't lose confidence: Even if you follow all the above steps, and still you did some mistake, it's not a sin! Don't lose your confidence, and do not lose your flow. Sometimes you may forget something, some lyrics, or some other similar mistake. Just blink your eyes for 2 seconds, take a deep breath and start again from the same step, or skip that step and begin from the next step. A singer may follow this quite casually that only a few people can notice it. Most likely some persons may not notice, and even if they do, it should be so natural that the flow should not be disturbed.
Giving a stage performance is not so tough as it may seem, if you follow the above steps. Any more steps/suggestions in your mind? Write them in the comments below, and upvote, follow and resteem for appreciation. Take care :)
