Today I want to tell you amazing facts about RATS!!

mouse.jpg

These rats have been trained to detect real landmines since 1997. Specifically, these are African giant pouched rats. These rats have poor vision but have an incredible sense of smell. For many years, they have extracted out 13,200 mines in Tanzania, Angola, Cambodia, and Mozambique still suffers from an approx six million landmines dispersed around the country. Profitable and beneficial land necessary for building and farming is cut off by this constant threat.
After ten months of training, the rats are able to cover far more ground than humans can cover, searching over 190 square meters in 19 minutes. The same work takes people up to five days since they risk life and limb. Human has to take every step very carefully because all area is covered with landmines before any step they have to ensure that the area is clear, but the rats are not heavy enough to trigger the Landmines and stop to scratch the ground whenever the source of TNT scent is reached.
