Bafuss # 7 | Mexican volcanoes, a love story.

Before the Spanish arrived in Mexico, there was a lot of tribes around that were always fighting against each other. One of them was the Tlaxcaltecas.

The Tlaxcalteca's king had a daughter named "Iztaccíhuatl" that was madly in love with an attractive warrior named "Popocatépetl". However, the king considered that a mundane warrior like Popocatépetl wasn't worthy enough for the love of his daughter, he would have to prove his love for her.

The king gave Popocatépetl a quest to deserve the hand of his daughter. He had to lead the Tlaxcaltecas against the strongest tribe and bring him back the head of their king. It was a mission impossible but Popocatépetl was motivated by the promise of marrying Iztaccíhuatl.

During the war, there was another guy that wanted to marry the princess even if she was in love with Popocatépetl. This guy, which name apparently nobody knows (I'll call him John), lied to the princess. He told her, that Popocatépetl died during the war.

John expected that Iztaccíhuatl married him instead of Popocatépetl but she loved the warrior too much to marry someone else. She was devasted by the fake news of the death of his man, she became super depressed, stopped eating and was crying all the time until she finally died of sadness.

Sometime after, Popocatépetl came back victorious from the battle, happy because he was about to marry the love of his life. When he found out that she died in his absence, he took her body with him to the mountains, he made an altar for her and gave her a goodbye kiss. He lighted his torch and stayed by her side, protecting her.

The gods saw the pain of Popocatépetl and covered them with snow. As the years passed, Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl became volcanoes, the sleeping woman and the warrior that is at her side guarding her forever.
