Hurricane Warnings Carolinas Florence Absolutely No Impact Here
HURRICANE WARNINGS EDISTO BEACH SOUTH CAROLINA TO DUCK NORTH CAROLINA
Nothing much has changed regarding Hurricane Florence both in strength and in track. Florence highest winds are at 130 mph and the motion continues west northwest at 17 mph. Hurricane Florence still remains a category 4 hurricane though it has not changed much in strength overnight. There is still time for one last burst of strengthening before the hurricane gets closer to land. Weather models overnight continue to indicate a track to the North Carolina coast near Wilimington followed by a stall or a small loop and then a track southwestward along or just offshore the coastline followed by a landfall along the Carolina coast. The European which has led the way on this has shifted further south with this and has the storm raking the entire South Carolina coast after the stall near North Carolina before moving inland. The European also DOES NOT bring the remnant rains up to the northeast next week. That remains to be seen.
No doubt the long duration landfall event means tons of rain and 20 to 30 inches of rain is likely as the forecast above indicates though we should point out that the 20 plus band in purple will likely need to be stretched west and south. If a more southerly track verifies it could lower the rainfalls on the northern end of this in Virginia. We will take this all apart later today.
Our weather outlook is relatively simple her for the next 3 days. Right off the bat let me make clear THERE WILL BE NO IMPACT FROM THE LANDFALLING HURRICANE FLORENCE. We have clouds around this morning and there are some downpours on the radar in a few places. Much like yesterday we might see some self destructive sunshine, tropical humidity and the chance for downpours or a thunderstorm with highs in the mid 70s to near 80. Nights will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s with the chance for the odd shower or thunderstorm. This forecast holds through Friday.
EASTERN SATELLITE
Much of the downpour activity this morning is north of NYC and moving eastward. We will likely see some downpours pop up later today across New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania.
While Hurricane Florence will be ravaging the Southeast US in one form or another this weekend, we here actually will see a fairly decent weekend with some sunshine and clouds with highs into the 80s and probably no rain! The next cold front begins to approach on Monday and weather models seem to suggest that the remnant low from Florence may not make it up here but instead move back off the Carolinas. The European model which has been the best performer is leading the way on this idea. We will look at this with greater interest later today.
