Of what are meteorites made. Siberian scientists have discovered a new substance in the cosmic body

Researchers  from Novosibirsk State University reported their discovery: they were  able to detect unknown substances in a meteorite that had fallen in the  region many years ago. Not that meteorites have been studied thoroughly, but the composition of stellar stones is roughly known. Now scientists have discovered a substance that has never been seen before by humans.

The history of this meteorite dates back 25 years ago. In May of 1992, he fell in the Novosibirsk region, near Maslyanino in a newly plowed field. If  the whole world was talking about the Chelyabinsk meteorite, and the  Tunguska meteorite (if it was a meteorite) is still being discussed by  the world community, the history of the Novosibirsk meteorite was not so  untwisted. The fragment found by the researchers was small and did not particularly attract the scientific world.

A young Novosibirsk scientist Denis Ponomarev decided to take up his study. The meteorite became the basis for his thesis work. The student seriously approached the matter, did not bother, and at  some point found that the space object contains a substance, a science  previously unknown.

For his discovery, he received the RAS Prize and continued the deeper exploration of the meteorite. Ponomarev  told reporters that the purpose of his work was chemical analysis, on  the basis of which it was planned to compile a model on which a  meteorite was created. In addition, it was planned to make a more accurate classification:  each meteorite is very different in composition from others, so everyone  needs to be re-classified.

Presumably,  the Novosibirsk meteorite collided with an asteroid many billion years  ago, while the meteorite and the asteroid collided in the process of  impact. As a result, the celestial body received a composition that surprised scientists with the presence of an unknown substance.

The structure of extraterrestrial matter is not yet clear. In addition, now the researchers are going to find out how old the meteorite is. However, the researcher intends to determine the age of the meteorite less than six months. Presumably, it can be more than four billion years.

The  young Novosibirsk scientist decided in his further work to expand the  volume of the studied material: he also receives samples of other  meteorites from museums around the world to compare their composition. Perhaps  very soon his work will lead to another useful discovery: after all,  the extraterrestrial substances found can have useful properties for  science, for example, conductivity.
